97 GL trans fluid and cooler question.......

i am looking to install a trans cooler on my tranny and do a complete flush of the fluid while i am at it. i was wondering what kind of fluid you guys recomend and how big i could get with the GVW rating on the tranny cooler?

The tranny calls for Mercon fluid. You can also use the more up to date Mercon V fluid if your doing a complete fluid replacement. Since your doing the fluid, also replace the filter too. As for brands, I used NAPA brand in my dads and my old Taurus. As for GVW, get as close as you can to what the car is rated at, you dont want the tranny too cool.

i was also wondering about the aftermarket fluids like redline, royal purple, b&m trickshift, lucas, etc.....

On the 97 the fluid is Mercon V.
