'88 Jetta Turn Signal Problems

I have an '88 Jetta with unfortunately the 1.8 litre 8 valve inline 4. Although not pertinent, I figured since im new and i read the post about being specific
then I would include that info. I bought the car yesterday, the turn signals worked . By chance i checked them before leaving my house in the car three hours after the purchase, and none worked. I checked fuse/bulbs, where can I go now? Please email me back at [email protected] if you can help thanks a bunch.
