Replacing cv shafts and output seals. Original seals are a two part seal. An inner seal that appears to be part of the "stub axle" and an outer seal much like a traditional seal.

My repair book doesn't give specifics on the driver side, but refers to pulling the passenger side "stub axle" with a slide hammer prior to pulling the outer seal. The stub axle is a splined shaft that connects the cv shaft to the transaxle. It has snap rings on both ends and what appears to be a built in seal/sleave on the shaft.

Question is this: Is the driver side configured the same as the passenger side? Is it a "stub axle" and will it pop out if I attach a slide hammer to it?

Anybody done this before?

you can take out the stub axle it's about 4 inchs long the seal around the tranaxle is bought thru dealer as a kit It comes with 2 new clips a new sleeve for the stub axle and the seal of course cost about 22.00. I am now trying to figure out how to get the new sleeve on the stub axle since I seemed to mangle it all up :banghead:

I also belive the driver side is the same since the CV joints are the same part number and the seal kit is as well.

Well a little update I cut a hole in a board roughly the size of the stub axle and hit the end of the sleeve to get it off and to put the new one on I used a 1inch and 1/16 deep well socket which fits jus inside of the sleeve but also over the stub then proceeded to place the sleeve where the original was by hitting the socket because I did'nt want to damage the new seal replace the clips and your done with the stub axle...
