ive been thinking for a long time to either pick up an econo car like a metro, or aspire, or 1.8 laser. or go for a motorcyle to save on gas. i figure in a week i put on 240 miles, this is a full tank for my car(my 03 zx2...which gets 26 mpg). what should i do? i could also modify my car at my own risk of losing the warentee. any suggestions?

do an intake... a motorcycle sucks during the winter and during rain. they're great other times, but for more than half the year, you don't want it to go to work on.

It wont void your warrenty unless the mod is proven to have caused the failure.

Unless you live somewhere that RARELY rains and NEVER snows, the motorcycle just isn't a good choice. Riding in snow sucks HARD. Riding in the rain sucks WORSE... Besides, short of a Ninja 250 you will only get about 50mpg. You could go scooter, those will get you close to the 100mpg mark (Just read an article in a magazine about bike fuel economy).

I'd just find a buddy(s) who is(are) willing to carpool from a central location. Then you don't have to drive to work every day yourself... at least you share the fuel costs.

Sell it and get a Civic. It will get constantly 40+ mpg on the highway.

my '93 civic is old, beat up, and a pos, BUT it still gives me about 35 or 36 to the gallon.

get a civic cx, and get exhaust, header, and intage. That should be 45 plus mpg

get a metro for close to $1k. you'll get 45+ mpg.
basically anything with less than a 1.5L 4cyl engine will get good mileage.

I don't believe hybrids are worth the cost just yet--possibly in a couple more years.

I was actually considering those electric scooters they have...obviously compare the maintenance and long term costs compared to say a gas powered scooter for summer and save the car for the shitty and snowy days.

Now is insurance on a scooter the same insane pricing as insurance on a motorcycle? I hope to god not...

Yeah just get a nice ecnobox and be on your way.. Motorcycles just dont really have enough positives to outdo the negatives.. in my mind atleast.

the only reason im not lookin at say gocarts or scooters, is cuz to get to school is a 15 mile trip.... that's a long ass time on some scooters. if i were closer ild probibly pick one up. im thinkin beater cuz i can rip out the interior, do anything i want to the car. i mean my old laser saw some good off road time running in whith chains, cummalongs, and other assorted goodies... but the best part about these small beaters is i and 3or4 fairly srong buddies could literally pick the car up. not high mind you. but just enough to get me out. hell if i still lived in KY (< you could legally run w/o fenders, hoods, windshields, it was nuts) i could pick up a small beater, rip about everything out, cut out the unimportant stuff. and ild have like the ultimate gas saver.
