94 Intrepid Acceleration Noise

I have a 94 Intrepid ES with a 3.5 engine and 131,000 miles. Periodically, the engine makes a clunking noise when I accelerate (while passing on a two lane road, merging onto highway, etc.). The problem seems exacerbated when cold, but happens when warm as well. While the noise isn't that loud (my wife doesn't notice it), it concerns me, as this is our only vehicle. Any clue on what this could be/what the solution is? Thanks.

Check the lugnuts on the front wheels to make sure they have not come loose, I used to have a 94 and I started hearing noises like this also and the drivers side wheel was loose. I sold the car to my brother and he called me last week and said it was making a noise, I told him to pull over and check that wheel, and it was loose again.

Thanks. I do not think that is the issue, as I have had alignments/rotations done while I had the problem and it still made the noise. I will check though to make sure.
