Hi All,

I have two 1989 s-10's, 4x4
one has 2.8 liter with 5 speed manual, single cab, long box
other 4.3 liter with automatic, cab and half, short box
would like to put manual transmission behind the 4.3.
Was told by retired Mr. Goodwrench it is not possible.
Your :2cents: thoughts are welcome!

Welcome to Automotive Forums reedster

Not possible, the bell houses aren't the same any you can't remove the bell housing on the 5 speed.

I looked and never found any adaptor plates for the 2.8L pattern either.

not possible, obp hit the nail on the head, you need a small block bell housing bolt pattern... on a second note, welcome abord

They're right. 2.8 is a 60 degree engine, the 4.3 is a 90 degree.

Bummer that won't work. I have several chev 350's from '78 chevy 3/4 tons.
would they work?, I know v8's are put in s-10's but a believe they are small blocks.
What do I have Small or big blocks. I know engine mounts have to be changed and other things , but is it feasible? As you can tell i'm a novice but not afraid to educate myself and give it a go.

with that 2.8, you need a fuel pump, and the delivery system for the type of system you go with (ie 78 is carberated, and the 90's is fuel injected) lots to do, will be expencive, if you want some details, ill list all i can think of, just let me knwo what your wanten to do

sounds like it is going to be out of my price range and way above my ability.
going to ponder situation. However, I am very happy with the 4.3 engine
(after all is it not a chev 327 with two cylinders removed?) need to find a manual transmission that will fit behind it to really enjoy it. A half-ton tranny work?

thanks for all the help!

its a 350 -2, 4.3/6=.7166 L/cyl... .7166x8= 5.7L... 61.4 ci= 1l, 5.7x61.4= 350... yes, it is an extreamly expencive project, with my 4.3 in the truck the swap is costing me close to 3k finished, and any manual tranny from a full size or s 10 should fit behind it
