I got my new G6 a little over a week ago, and I love it!!
I have found that the Remote Start can be added, and found the part number and price on the GM Parts website.
Does anyone know how difficult this might be to install? Seems like is is just a module and two new remotes.
I would love to save the $75 for installation if possible. Does it require any programming that only a dealer can do?
Cost of the kit is $195.
Thanks for any information.

The kit is easy to install but the arming of the system needs to be done at the dealer thru a programming.

I got my G6 Dec. 05.... love it..
learned from a friend that G6 and new pontiacs, et al new GM autos have remote start capabilities...just need dealer to supply progrming instructions for DIY...if present I must have paid for it in what ever price I paid for the G6 why can't I get the instructions...what's the big secret....I purchased the key FOB with the buttons for start, lock, unlock, etc form EBAY dealer....they will/can not supply instructions either...whats the big secret...I can't afford $195 ...GM should publish instructions to activate this feature if it is truly already installed and paid for by the purchaser....?????

Dealer Programming is done with a Tech2 Scantool so they really can't just give DIY instructions unless you have the scantool which costs a few thousand....makes $195 look a little less expensive

Almost all car makers are trying to limit people to options on aftermarket items. Remote starters have been a big problem for many years in the car industry. Not the RS themselves but shotty installs and crappy parts. Dealers have been getting in hot water trying to make warranties conditional. The only way they can make a warranty conditional is by providing a simular product free of charge to the consumer. Gm has jumped on this since there seems to be a high number of problems with their vehicles.
Funny thing is local dealers still have me install my remote starters. Having over 1/2 mile range is much nicer than 400' for the same price!
