Does your car idle like it should?

Now I'm curious how many people here have a 4G (or rex) that idles like its supposed to. (750ish)

Mostly I'm bored and wanted to make a poll, but also I'm curious. I don't know if my B16 has ever idled properly since I've got it.

i voted yes because I know how to work on my car and set the idle the correct way.

IT took a cleaning of the IAC and a grounding kit but now it's purrrrfect

I have to set my Idle higher because of the loss in momentum with the lightweight flywheel, so it's not 750 it's up at 950 to 1050rpm.

I can idle at 750, you rev it once and it will stall though.

Mine idles at the 750 like its supposed too, but it shakes like a bitch... I think it should be higher because when I lightly touch the gas and it goes upto 900-1000 its fine... I tried to adjust the fast idle but it was a no go...

Whats this idle you speak of? I replaced my throttle cable with a rubber band, no idle, but man it saves my right foot alot of work.

Mines at around 1200 (according to the tach anyway) and it's usually fine but lately every time I come to an abrupt stop the idle drops to 900rpms and the battery light pops on. I blip the gas and it goes back to normal. It's been pissing me off but I really don't care...

mine doesn't idle but then again it is sittling in a quite a few pieces next to my desk so that might be why

mine still needs an idle adjustment since i got the lightweight flywheel, so currently it drop down to like 3-500.....

hmmm..might be a busted motor mount. Mine was like that. I pulled the engine and sure enough, the front mount was broke. I'm pretty sure this was the culprit

Well my bro forgot to mention that he had the wrong ecu in the car when he gave it to me so my idle bounces to like 50 at times and my lights get dim and then bounces back up to like 150 and then back down and that continus.......... cant wait for my new engine.. ecu... tranny... every thing ! It will be a little better I hope :)

b16 = perfect idle.. however I need a bigger battery, idle slightly drops when i have my system pumped, and the headlights on.

B16 - Nice steady around 700. Never had a stall or big dip. Very happy with it.

Question: You people with B16s and 700rpm idle... do you guys ride the clutch to get moving or are y'all constantly dumping it? Don't you have to get up passed 3k rpms to make power?

FrodoGT
03-07-2006, 04:06 PM
...Yes, there is no moving below about 1500, and even then its very shaky...no torque..But I do Idle at 700 rpm.

Mine idles just fine. Dead nuts on 800rpms.

WTF?! Why would you need to "make power" just to drive the car? I seriously doubt it makes any less power below 3,000rpm than an A6.
Jebus, if you let the clutch out with the rpm anwhere near 3,000 you'd be flying off in smoke everywhere you went.:uhoh:

I don't usually even touch the gas to get the car going and my idle is around 900...

hell no.. my lightened flywheel and stage 2 clutch gets me moving no problem

the slight inconsistance in idle on the b16 is from the skunk2 intake mani....i just figured i'd take the chance to tell SiZ that my d16 idles better than the b16 :thefinger:

w00t for 90civicrider's b16! :grinno:

:(

Mine fluctuates before the car is up to temp. Once it is it will idle at 900, then switch to like 1200 for a bit, then down to 750. Fuck, it makes me nuts. I HAVE to fix it this year when I get the car back.

ALL the D series motors I've had idled well. But they were too slow. :p

FrodoGT

Mine idles about 1000-1200 when cold, for about 2 minutes....they are supposed to do that arent they? Anyway, on the power thing...If I try to get moving without ANY gas, 1.)the car shudders like a cracked out monkey and 2.) It takes about 5 seconds to get moving, without dying....so at a redlight this is not suitable...

FrodoGT, i have 2 questions....
does it run lean?
does it run rich?

if it runs rich then check your hoses to the MAP. if they are okay check the MAP sensor it self.

next check IACV: take 2 screws off the back of the intake mani and you'll find a screen. take out, clean, and replace. follow that by the Fast Idle Control Valve...a plate on the back side of it, take it off and there is a nylon bolt that looks wierd (its slotted) screw it down (all the way in).

let me know how that all turns out boss

my d16y8 can take the b16 off teh line......

but then i have to shift as the b16 hauls past in 1st :loser:

i have a top secret project that should keep up with the b16...i gaurentee nobody is going to expect what i'm building next...providing my locals don't say anything

Well I know that it used to run rich....and lean if I let it run down off throttle in gear. So I replaced the MAP to one from an integra and now my a/f (I know they are fickle) shows it being right on...Ill try those all tomorrow maybe, just got home from a concert...Im dead ass tired.

I think my tps is screwed up, mine bounce after it gets hot. it revs to about 800, then dropps back down to like 700 every 5 seconds or so

FrodoGT
03-15-2006, 02:34 PM
Mine did that, but more extreme...it was the MAP, think it had a vaccum leak at the end of the hose, I started the car, pulled the hose (car died), started it with the hose off and of course it ran like dog crap, at about 200rpm. Shut it off and reconnected and its fine, its done it a couple of times...on the highway too, which causes it to run leaner than ever (and the smell will burn the hair out of your nose). Always works for me, the mysteries of hondas...damn little gremlins in there.
