get underneath it and follow wiring .. to check for any cross feeds..

does your astro have a remote car starter, that could be the problem
check around underneath and look for any chaffed wires.

also could be a bad ignition switch.

Have you tried to start it in Neutral?

If your ignition switch was bad I would think that your starter would run in PARK and NEUTRAL. Since your problem is only in PARK then I would probably check to make sure the "Park/Neutral Position and Backup Lamp Switch" is working properly. I'd also check the "Starter Enable Relay" for proper operation.

I've just encountered this same problem within the past several days with my 2000 Astro Van...only seems to happen when in park....however....there is another problem at the same time. The red light that highlights the gear the van is in...D 1, 2, 3 or R.....flickers on and off in Drive....works in 1 and 3 and R, but not 2...and as I said...flickers and goes off in "D"

Any comments or advise would be certainly appreciated.

Sounds like a short in your neutral safety switch

I am having the exact same problem on my 2003 astro
I have replaced the starter and checked my ignition switch and those arent the problem. Has any one actually fixed this problem to give a definite answer

thanks

I am new to this site, but I might be able
to help you.
You can reply to my email
jeffmyers10 and thats aTyahoo
I probabll will not be on this site
too much--just wanted to post my own ad
and thought you might be able to tell me how.
In the mean time, I will search my database
for a common problem with your vehicle.
03 astro??
Can you email me with some more specific
symptoms??

Here is a link to this problem if I can
attach it. Once again, GM says this is a
"normal condition", if this is really what is
happening in your case. It is gm bulletin # 03-06-03-001D
you can probably google it

The OP's vehicle does not qualify under that TSB, and that's not the problem the OP was experiencing.
