Timing Belt Replacement

hi i was just wondering what the recommended millage to change the timing belt on a 1999 Osmobile Intrigue was. Thanks!

I know that the 3.5 doesn't have a belt, but a timing chain. Which engine do you have? The 3.8 is a pushrod, so that isn't applicable. So, don't worry about it.

i have a 3.5 i think, so your saying dont worry about it it doesnt need to be replaced?

No, they almost never need replacement. It should be fine for a long time.

I Guess thats cool, i have 109,600 on my car i guess i had to ask though,what makes a chain timing belt any different from a regualr belt, as far as life and replacement?

the timing chain is far superior because it does not wear the way a belt will. Earlier small engines with belts had about a 60000 mile life on the belt. If you had not changed it by then you were on borrowed time. A timing chain is just that - heavy duty metal. Not that no wear takes place on the chain and "sprockets" as it were, but a failure is far less likely and not a "designed obsolesence" issue. I think the only time you might do a "routine" replacement of a chain is if you had the engine broken down that far and found wear, or just decided to change it out for good measure while you were in that deep.
