im deperately trying to talk my friend out of this (while i do see his point). he bought an 00 trans am, about 6 months ago. im talkin ls1 with a stick, bad ass power. but he just fell into this "sleeper" phase. were he wants to remove EVERYTHING that makes it a trans am except for internals > the powertrain. he wants to replace the fenders, the hood, the spoiler. and try to play it off as a plain jane f-bird. he has even designed a single exhaust that will let him flow about as much as the dual, but only out of one tip... as cool as this thought would be. i dont really like the thought of tearing into a trans am for what he wants... i figured ild drop this thread to see what you all think.

Sounds pretty crazy to me,. Especially when if that what he wanted to go for he could just sell the T/A and buy a Formula

Not a bad idea...but no way would it sound like a sleeper.

He would need an entire front body piece, a new rear wing, a new rear body piece, etc...
Performance....Single exhaust would be similiar to stock y-pipe set-up exitting from only one pipe. Just like the stock LS1 F-Body's from 1998.
I wouldn't do this to an actual T/A though. Not even a Formula. Although the Formula is MUCH easier to 'sleeperise.' Basicly looks like a regular Firebird but with the LS1. Trans Am has a couple different body panels.

To much work, not enough gain. Except for claiming it is a V6 car.

For sound, he could just deaden it so it sounds like a dual V6 exhaust maybe. I still wouldn't do this...waste of money for what? To beat some guy thinking hes racing a V6? Spend the money on V8 mods to beat bigger badder V8s...

Im going to say this and try not to offend anyone....That is the stupidest thing i've ever heard and that kid does not disserve to drive a T/A. Whats his braniac idea? Drive around trying to race civics all day? Unless he pretty wealthy i guarantee he wont go through with the idea.

nah, its a cool thing... i think its just the "funny" factor, not the racing.. pull up to mustang GT's flash the "firebird" sign instead of "trans am"
they think: easy picking. :D haha, if he does it i think it would be funny

Just tell him to sell the T/A and buy a formula or sell the T/A and buy a v6 then swap a v8 into it, OR just keep the T/A and be happy with the thing.

What would look funny is being beaten in a want to be firebird when the other car is as advertised. I thought it was funny blowing away a tricked 92 mustang with a near stock 88 grand am turbo. The fool had more money than brains. Too little gear and couldn't keep up. God I miss that car. And yes it did do 150 with a four. The cop even showed me the radar gun, luckily he only gave me the ticket for 87 in a 55. I"m glad my speeding years are over. No more fines and lower insurance.

No offense....

But doing 150 doesn't impress me.
How fast you get there impresses me.

i'm going to have to go with most of the other responces, if your friend wants trade it in for a formula, but its a trans am, have some pride of a having one...i see the idea, but show it off..if it's a trans am keep it that way..
