Daily Driver Cams

Thinking about getting a new cam, but money is limited. It is and will be a daily driver, so I need something somewhat mild cam. But I also want something that will give me more oompf. OH yeah, I have a stock LT1 94 Z28, but I also plan on getting LT headers and CAI before the cam. Here are my questions, what would be good cam specs to look for to meet my criteria? And, is it necessary to get new springs, lifters, or pushrods? I probably wouldn't if I don't NEED them because money is limited. I would get a new timing chain though. Thanks for your help.

to get the most out of the cam and to run effeciently(better mpg) youll need to load a different tune in the computer

i dont know if id call a HOT cam a daily driver cam, certainly a great performance cam but .525/.525 lift isnt exactly targeted to fuel economy.

I reccomend an upgrade to comp cams xtreme energy cams, they have very aggressive lobe ramps that provide max area under the curve but you can get them with say.. .470/.480 lift or somewhere around there, and your wallet will thank you in the long run. With that little lift, you might be able to get away with keeping the stock springs, but id replace them. especiallly with the years you have on that engine. it will probly be cheaper in the long run, if a valve spring breaks you could have a whole world of hurt.

but i do agree that after installing the new cam and springs, along with headers and all, a computer retune will give you the most those mods have to offer.

all depends on what you call fuel economy :) if I hit 17 mpg im doing pretty well. Although highway driving (the one short trip to daytona that I have taken) it did very well. Somewhere around 20. But most of the time im in the 15 range depending on how my foot feels.

You guys call 17 MPG good???

The LS1 was getting 22.5 MPG around town (with a couple WOT punches) when cammed. 226/234 554/575 112. And that was no tune and too much valvespring.
I love my M6.

I call 17 mpg real good! I have mostly city type driving and I get 12-14 mpg. And that's only getting on it a few times.

So, a cam with lift around .480" would be ideal? What about duration? I was thinking somewhere around 226/230 or so. Is that too much or not enough?
I'll look into comp cams where the time comes...but will it work with stock, unported heads?

if your getting 12-14 then you have something that isnt right. Friend of mine has a 94z28 with an lt1 and hes pushing 375hp and i dont think hes even getting 12 mpg...

Considering I get around 8-10 MPG I consider 17 phenomenal.

What are the stock cam specs on a 94 LT1? I couldn't find them anywhere on the web.
