Snow

I'm a brand new Grand Am owner, and maybe I should have done the research better before I bought the car, but anyway, I was just curious to find out how does this vehicle handle in the snow? Does that traction control thing work pretty well? Thanks!

It's a front wheel drive car. It will be fine. The Goodyears I had when the car was new were not fantastic in the snow but all others tires I had on there did fine I turn off traction control in the snow.

I have driven the Grand Am in the snow and it handles very well. The traction control will help you in slick situations but be careful to watch your speed as it primarily works at slower speeds when you get wheel spin. Make sure you have good tires with adequate tread on them and use good judgement.

mine does very well in snow too. that traction control is funny like GTP Dad said, works best at slowr speeds. Sometimes turning it off helps get unstuck, sometimes it dont. just my :2cents:

I've had my 96 GAGT since new, I don't have traction control because I have the manual transmission. I have never been stuck, However my wife once got her stuck in about 8 inches of mud. It took a little work but I was able to rock her out of the mud. One thing to keep in mind if you get in a position where you are revving the engine there is a limiter on it and if your not familiar with it you may freak out the first time it kicks in. It will feel like the engine is cutting out just back off the gas and it will calm down.

I have driven in 12+ inches just take your time and use your head and it will get you where you need to be.

I've driven my GAs through some heller deep snow, just acts like a wedge>>>>>> plows right through.
Though when the snow gets over the hood, you might think of turning back :lol: Next to AWD, FWD is the BEST in snow!

Yeh I love my GA in the snow. Never been stuck - come close, but never have. And as far as the Electronic Traction System I turn mine off as soon as I get in the car. I find it a lot easier to get a grip if I can control and feather the throttle on my own - the ETS has messed with me in the past, and I really prefer to have it off, all the time.

My '99 is great in snow, but don't get too confident or cocky. Nothing is great on ice, and once snow starts to melt and refreeze, there's often ice hidden under the powder. Watch your speed, stay off the brakes (maintaining a slow speed and letting the gears slow you down is still better than braking in slippery conditions, even with ABS), and the Grand Am with decent tires is a fantastic car in the snow.
