95 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0 DOHC (all factory parts) 133,000 miles

Was recently running but real sluggish until it reached 3000 rpms. Then today, it started, drove about 50 feet and stalled. Will not restart. Cranks and cranks. Plugs are firing, compression is 120. Timing belt is real tight when not running, but flaps wildly when running. Will replacing the timing belt, tensioners, etc help? Thanks

What do you mean it flaps wildly when running? That doesn't sound good at all.

when was the last time the timing belt was changed? it sounds like the tensioners not even working correctly and your timing is way off if it runs so shitty. i wouldn't drive/start it until you get the problem fixed, you run the rist of bending valves.

I just bought this car 2 days ago and the previous owner said the timing belt was never changed! Definately sounds like my problem is the timing belt. I guess my main worries are if the valves and heads are okay. A mechanic will be taking it apart tommorrow so time will tell. Thanks for the help.

Don't forget the pistons. Valves hitting the pistons works both ways.

Turns out the timing belt tensioner was destroyed. Bearings fell out when the timing belt came off. Everything was replaced, but now there is a ticking (maybe clapping) noise coming from the timing belt area. Mechanic says it is because everything is new and tight right now? Gets better at higher rpms but it is pretty loud. Is he right or just covering up something he doesn't feel like dealing with?

Sounds exactly like what happened to mine. Original belt @103k. 1 month after I bought it the belt slipped. Time for a 1g head swap!
