Hey Guys.. I'm buying my first car and have been fascinated by Mustangs for a very long time. There's a '96 GT on sale with 54k miles on it.. It's supposedly in a good condition.. owned by a retired professional...

I have two questions.. what's a good price for it.. considering it's in a good condition..

also.. what kind of mileage would the car give.. i'm a college student and don't wanna pay the oil companies :)

also.. how bad is mustang with maintainance?

thanks guys..

well mustangs are known to be pretty reliable in general. mines never had a repair and its at 80k miles right now, but its a dif generation and engine. i think highway mpg should be like low 20's... but idk for sure. i wouldnt pay more than 4k for it personally, you can go on kbb.com (kelly blue book) and type in the cars info like miles and stuff and see what they come to. i doubt this since your in college, but if you do have money to mod it, those year mustang gts like head swaps a whole lot.

I have a 96 GT that I've owned for 2 years now...it had been mistreated by the previous owner...body was straight, but needed lots of TLC to get it back into pristine shape...I've spent a lot on it over the last two years, but it has been worth every penny. I average around 20 MPG and on occasion get 23 MPG out on highway drives...and I average around 80 MPH most of the time on the highway...It's a fun car to drive, and I still get compliments on it from other Mustang owners...it's just a matter of what you want...

Well your mileage is pretty good on that car. I would think its likely to be worth around 5000-5500. If your are looking for a car good for modifications I would suggest a 94/95. The year is close enough that, the car looks the same, and its got the 5.0. But hey if its in really great shape how can I argue with that.

in 96 they went to a non-PI head 4.6 which replaced the 5.0, so it is either a 4.6 or a 94-95

in 96 they went to a non-PI head 4.6 which replaced the 5.0, so it is either a 4.6 or a 94-95 they have 2 heads, its a V configured engine. they also changed the intakes
