300ZXTT Guages

Hi all. I am brand new to this forum, so please forgive any mistakes or clumsiness. I just bought a 96 300ZXTT, and the temp and boost gauges do not work. They both stay in the same position as when I turn the key on. (about mid point on the guage) Where should I start searching for the problems? Thanks

Well, with the boost gauge, find the vacuum line running from the dash and make sure it is either hooked up to a nipple on the plenum or T'd into a vacuum hose inbetween the fuel pressure regulator and the IC or some other place were you are sure it will read boost. I wish I could be more specific but I don't know were the stock boost gauge is hooked up :(

As for the temp gauge, check your temp sensor I suppose.

Thanks, Gonthrax. seems I was wrong about the temp gauge. I had just driven the car 400 miles from whence I bought it when I posted. It just warms up very quickly, and cools down very slowly! Also never climbs above the initial warm up point, even when pushing it a bit. I suppose that's a good thing, though I would expect otherwise. I'll try to track down the boost gauge plumbing when she cools down a bit, as I've been out playing.:frog:

OK. Found the broken vac line and replaced it. I used a larger id line than stock, (5/32), as I had some that size. Also, the original line was brittle enough that it wouldnt fit over the nipple without splitting. The new line is a tight fit. Will the larger size affect the gauge reading? It now moves right up to the second mark above 0 under hard accereration, and the second mark below 0 at highway cruise. Is this about right? Nissan shows 30k on these turbos.

A larger line shouldn't affect your reading as long as it's not bloody huge :D

Any who, I've never seen the boost gauge on a Zed TT while on boost so I don't know where it's supposed to read because I don't know what increment the gauge is denoted in. Psi, Bar kg/cm2 ect. Now I've heard also that Zed boost gauges are notoriously inaccurate, so I'd go and buy either a nice gauge and mount it, or a cheapo one and make sure your boosting 9psi.

Gauge reads in PSI, and I suppose mine is indicating 7 lbs. I've been reading some older posts, and it seems others agree with you about the inaccuracy of the stock gauge. Thanks for your help. :)
