I have a problem with my check engine light and oil light on my 2004 Dodge Intrepid!! I bought it used and I have about 70,000 miles on it now. Not too long after I got it oil light comes on...no oil leaking and full, take it to the shop they say something has a leak (small one) ok to drive cost me about a $100 to fix it. I am still driving it with the oil light coming on and off. Seems to come on when I brake and go off when I push the gas....who knows! I just check oil frequently.

Recently check engine light started coming on. Went off by itself after a few days the first two time, the third time a few weeks ago stayes on for about 5 days then went off now it is on again. I have yet to take it to the shop for this due to my work schedule/finances to be able to fix it if serious which is probally dumb. Been lucky so far has not done anything as of yet, however I did notice the other day it seemed to be sounding different when sitting still.

Please help.....do these really come on for minor reasons like the gas cap for instance or should I really get this checked out before I end up with no car at all because of major problems. :shakehead

Hi there,

Welcome to the site. Your oil light flickering is actually a know problem with the 2.7 liter Intrepids, in fact a TSB (technical service bulletin) came out in 1999 for '98 & '99 Intrepids for the flickering oil light at idle. TSB #08-36-99 which fixes oil light flicker at idle for fully warmed up engines. The fix for this problem is to get a $15 wire from the dealer (part # 05017800AA) and have it inserted into the oil pressure sending unit wire connector. Some mechanics might tell you to replace the oil pressure sensor as well, though that is not entirely necessary, just have the vent wire installed and you should be good to go, as long as you don't have any significant oil pressure drop.

I received your e-mail regarding the P0441 code and there's nothing to be worried about. What that code is stating that you have a small pinhole leak in your evaporative emissions system and when you turn you key, the system does a self-check and noticed a small leak. It's not anything serious, I have the same thing with my 2002 Intrepid and it comes on every now and then; but don't worry, it won't affect the performance of your vehicle, it just means that there is a leak in one of the plastic hoses in your evaporative emissions system. If you don't want to see the light on again for that, you could go to a dealer that can "smoke test" the system and find out where the leak is, usually it will be in one of two areas, under the hood, or on top of the gas tank. I hope this helps, feel free to visit and ask any questions you have about your car, that's what this site is for.
