fog light question

Put my truck in a ditch couple of weeks back... just don't ask. : (
I noticed my passenger side foglight is out and had mud and water
swimming around inside it. I have cleaned, dried and replaced the
bulb (H3) without successfully restoring the light. Fuse is okay
since only one that works both driver and passenger... wires don't
looked fractured... contacts are clean. Any help most appreciated.

Have no clue about electrical stuff... have a voltmeter/ don't
know how to use it. Help a girl out will you? Thanks

Check where the fog plugs into the connector on the chassis. It's a few inches above each light. The pass side got hot and melted on mine. Only thing I could figure is it got water/road salt in it & shorted. I havent had a pass side fog because of that for a few years now :banghead: . My only alternative is to cut-off the factory plug & splice the fog pigtale in solid. Only problem is there is only a few inches of slack in the chassis harness.:shakehead

I've checked and cleaned that connection. It was a little gritty
from the mud so i thought that was my trouble. But, after cleaning
and reconnecting ... nothing.

msikdmI would disconnect the plug and remove the new bulb, then using your voltmeter check the resistance of each wire. Check each pin in the plug/connector to the wire that the bulb connects to. One of them should be 0 ohms. The other pin in the connector should have 0 ohms to where the base of the H3 bulb fits into the light (ground). Check the operational light first and see if you get similar readings on the one that isn't working. This will at least rule out the lights or tell you if one of the wires is cut.

Seeing as you had water and muck in your fog light it's quite possible that you have a burned up wire or bad ground.:2cents:

Thanks for the help! The connector on the frame of the fog light was clean
but corroded and not allowing a good ground. All fixed up and ready for the
next mishap.
