starts but stalls immediately

I have a 1983 944. One day i came out to start it and it started but stalls immediately. If I unplug the temp. sensor the car will start and idle but if I try to push the throttle it will stall. I tried replacing that sensor and the throttle sensor and I still have the same problem. I was wondering if there might be a short in the alternator. If I disconnect the positive battery cable the car will stall immediately and from what I hear it should stay running. If anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate it, this is my daily driver and until I fix it have no ride
