although im not certain i highly doubt it. Maserati have too much pride for that. Perhaps it was Ferrari or Fiat (less likely) as they own Maserati.

Maseratis have nothing to do with Ford. Maserati is owned by Ferrari, which is owned by Fiat SpA (a huge conglomerate). There are no links between Ferrari and Fiat Auto (an automaker owned by Fiat SpA).

Nope Ferrari/Maserati is a wing of the FIAT/Lancia/Alfa Romeo group.

Ferrari and Maserati do cars together, while FIAT, Alfa and Lancia do thiers with each-other, but the two wings do not co-develop with each other

FIAT owns Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia. Fiat Auto is in trouble, it had better not sell any of these marques off, or worse terminate any, and by that I mean Lancia :(

Let's try this again. Everytime I think someone in here has explained it properly, someone questions it.

Fiat SpA is the huge conglomerate that owns aerospace (Fiat Avio), agriculture (Case New Holland), publishing (Itedi), production systems (Comau), automotive components (Magneti Marelli), and automotive divisions among others.

Fiat SpA has three major automotive divisions: Fiat Auto, commercial vehicles, and Ferrari SpA. Fiat Auto controls the Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Lancia brands. Fiat's commercial branch holds Iveco trucks. Ferrari SpA controls Ferrari and Maserati.

Giancarlo Boschetti is "the guy in control" of Fiat Auto. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo is in charge of Ferrari. Paolo Cantarella is the CEO of Fiat SpA.

Fiat Auto is in trouble, but it doesn't directly affect Ferrari. Fiat SpA has already sold off part of Ferrari to banks in Italy and Germany to help the company finance Fiat Auto.

There are discussions that Fiat SpA might transfer control of Alfa Romeo from Fiat Auto to Ferrari SpA, but I haven't heard anything about any brands being lost.

In a point that may have gotten lost earlier, General Motors owns 20% of Fiat Auto, not Fiat SpA. GM has NO connection to Ferrari (whew!)

There have been hints to that for years. First, they stopped making RHD editions. Then, they completely pulled out of the UK.

Yes, but now they're losing market share everywhere

Lancia is going to need a serious cash injection, where is that gonna come from?

I've seen many cars that I would consider much more exotic than Maserati, and I've seen a number of the more exotic Maseratis. I would classify the Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti EB110, McLaren F1, Lamborghini Murcielago and Diablo, Porsche 959, and Ferrari F50 as more exotic than any of the Maseratis I've seen.

Indeed, but the last few posts just veered off the subject for seemingly no reason
sometimes people just say what they want to say irrespective of what is being discussed... infuriating!
