The Z stalks again!

First, a rant!

WHY DID SOMEONE HAVE TO CRASH INTO MY SUBURBON AS I SLEPT?!?!?! Someone broadsided it, and ran. DAMNIT

Anyway, I was driving the Z the other day on the freeway and came across a early 2000ish corvette, convertable. I reved on him, he seemed to become ANGRY. I still had about 30 miles to get home, and traffic seemed it wouldnt clear so I placed myself on his 6. He never seemed to flinch, his stony hard old man face ever the same.....untill....


TRAFFIC CLEARED!

I pulled alongside, and upded the boost to 15psi...he dosenshifted...and it was on

He pulled, and as soon as I got on it in 4th at 5K I instantly got back to his side....I heard him still, pushing his vette as hard as she would go...BUT TO NO AVAIL....I pulled past, and kept going. He caught up later, face still carved from stone...I gave him a thumbs up...he gave me an angry frown!

NEXT....another day I see a late model SS....with a licenceplate DJ N20

.........rriiiggghhhtt.....

I pull alongside and he has flames omn the side, his exaust is drowning out my Z....SOOOO loud! Anyway.... I rev on him...he looks over trying to be all extra hard and homieish! I FEAR NOT!

Finally he downshifts after we drive a good 10 miles alongside eachother. He hits it, I slam it to 4th and mash out. I hear it spool, the Z jumps hard after DJN20! 5k on his ass, 6k my door is to his nose, 7K I pass, and by 5th I had him in my rearview! NOTHING CAN STOP THE RELIC?!?! :smokin:

Then, last sunday I was leaving Rednecks house after some hot steemy action! (ok...so he just hung out with me and my Girlfriend and we sat around laughting at myspace) I see a Evo 8....with a nice exaust and 3 white guys, very preppy INDEED! I get alongside and set it to 15psi! I yammer on it and jump in first, they all stop and look over. Next thing I know they are following me, ready to meet DOOM!

I make a turn onto a main road, empty ahead for over a mile....I sit in second at 4k....and they make the turn and hit it, I wait for them to reach my door before I hit it. They already had some momentum, gaining speed! But it matters NOT! I Spooled and had my ass at their nose by the time I shifted to 3rd. By 7K in 4th I had about 4 lenghts, it was over....

The car just got faster this time around... the spark plug gap was killing the performance.

I'd say it's got enough power now to keep ahead of me now, rather than before I had enough top end pull to make up the power to weight ratio difference.

Sure...I may seem biased (and I'm rooting for him no matter what), but I've seen the mods on both cars and, provided you both are being honest, I'd put a Ben on the Z. They don't even weigh 3000lbs and he is probably pushing nearly 400 hp, maybe a bit more. Just say the Z is putting down 375 hp (just for the sake of arguement) in a car that weighs ~2700 lbs (HA...see the * at the bottom), this means it has a lb:hp ratio of 7.2:1...for a point of reference, the new Ferrari 575M Maranello has a lb:hp ratio of 7.41:1 and it gets to 60 in a blistering 2 ticks past 4 seconds. Sure...these 2 cars are VEEEEEEERY different...there are many factors affecting this number such as torque curve, traction, the weather, driver, etc, etc, etc, but this should still give you something to think about.

FYI: To have the same power to weight ratio as the FERRARI (NOT the figure given for the Z above....), the Trans Am in question (weighing a little over 3400 lbs, source: http://www.fast-autos.com/transam.html) would need 459 hp and, according to his sig, he's "only" got a tick over 351...

...now...does this mean the Z would definately win? No...of course not...theory and the real world are two vastly different things sometimes...but still...where would you put your money?

Thanks for the vote of confidance but my z has 280hp at most. It is rated at 215 stock, added mods and boost its doin good, but not high 300 range for sure.

Traction is defentally a problem, along with a stock clutch...so who knows but for sure it would be fun. Lots of places out here to get away with it too. (phone or pm me for details!) VR4, dude, we defentally need to race. Also, anyone would probally be allowed to stay with me, but I would need to check. I am stayin with my girl and her mom. I know they wouldnt mind though as long as everyone was mellow. Hell, I would even cook dinner! (Yes, I can cook....so shut up!)

anywhoo, I think it would be good to have a street racer meet and maby make a lil vid on some weekend. HAHAHAHA, we can go to neptunes net, everyone can pay for their own shrimp!

You guys were saying the same thing when I beat Matty's 240Z. I also didn't have the cam in my car at that point (My car is making roughly 35whp more now). If TV went from a roll, I personally think it will get ugly. I won't be pushing my car from a dig, and will have less mass to move. If we race from a dig, it's all good, i've got BFG Drag Radials and 4.10 gearing :D

Thanks for asking. They work like a charm. I can keep my car in it's powerband alot easier. Out of the hole, and on street tires, it can prove to be a burden, but on the DR's i'm sure I won't have issues.

TV racing my car from a roll ain't gonna be like racing a near stock Z28. It will be fun though. We need a camera man, preferably someone that can hold a camera straight.

he has a 2.0 RB that came from a R32 GTST, and it runs on this mystery turbo. no body really knows if it runs a T25 or a T28 stock. so yeah 2.0 liters plus mystery turbo does not equal 2.6 liter of twin turbo bad ass.

i've been reading on the RB forums saying that the RB20 has a weak turbo with a ceramic compressor blade that doesn't like being pushed by 10 psi. you can get away with 14 psi but it won't last long before hte blade starts to come apart. so 18 psi is a no no.

Pinging and decintegrating turbine wheels tend to be a bit rough on engines...lol...just don't hurt it, man!

if you can get your hands on a T28 for cheap that would be a real nice cheap upgrade, but a T28 can only get you up to 300whp tops, and you still need to up grade injectors since yours is only 270cc.
