My 99 Jetta

I have a 99 Jetta Wolfsburg... Anyway right now it has 61,000 miles on it. Should I get a new engine or how long should I expect my current engine to last. My friend says 300K but i dont know. Any help is appreciated.

As long as you maintain your engine properly(oil changes,routine main.)your engine will last for years!
I have a '99 Jetta Wolfsburg w/ 72k on it...the car runs just as good as when I bought it new.A very good friend of mine had 220k on his Jetta before he swapped for a VR6.

Yup, hes right. Maintain that engine. Oil changes, proper fuel, dont let it sit to long, remember to run it every once and a while. Have your regular checkups and remember to replace all of your belts, bells and whistles at 20,000 just to make sure there is no reason for them to break. Keep it clean too, go to Pep Boys and pick up some of that engine cleaner. The cleaner your engine is, the more likely it is to disapate heat into the hood and run at slightly lower temperatures... remember high revs. If its a manual, the engine will have less strain on it and probably last longer as well... mine is a manual because it provides more power.

Get rid of the whole car. No joke i had my car for 2 weeks before it went into the shop and has been there since JAnuary 1. I got the car and had the oil change, it had documented oil changes, gear box fluid changes, tune ups, and the thing had only 75,000 miles. Now the hunk of metal doesn't rev past 3,000 rpm, and has absolutely no power. I had to have it towed over an hour and a half away from my house. I had all electrical components of the engine replace, and all parts dealing with the fuel replaced. The mechanics and dealership can't figure out what's wrong. Take my advice and sell the car.

If ya didnt take it to a vw dealer, than its no wonder they cant fix it.!
You have to know how vw's work in order to understand how 2 fix them.
