94 Ford Explorer 140000mi.

So I just shipped my 94 ford explorer to Hawaii a couple of months ago and now it is not running well at all. When I am idling, either in neutral or park the car will surge from 900rpms to 1100rpms and will bounce furiously. I have to put it in park and rev the engine to stop the bouncing. This happens when I first start it up and does not go away as it "warms up". Please, any input would help. Thanks!

i dont mean to insult you, but have you checked the oil?

Thank you so much for posting..the oil and trans fluid levels are fine. I forgot to mention that when the car bounces the battery gauge flops back and forth, if that helps at all. I don't know the last time the transmission fluid has been changed, do you think this would help. I really appreciated any further input.

I'm not all knowledgeable, but here's a few things I'd do first...

Check the internet on how to clean or replace the IAC. This is a common issue. With your throttle plate fully closed, as during idling, the combustion air comes through the IAC.

Check your exhaust pipes and make sure they weren't crushed during shipping.

Check/Replace spark plugs (make sure they're the proper part number) and clean or replace the air filter. "Tune-up" is the expensive phrase for this.

Have someone check the fuel pressure

Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator to make sure there's no fuel in there. If there is, replace the regulator

Try a can of injector cleaner in the gas tank.

how long have you been driving it for in hawaii, perhaps it needs to adapt to the height and humidity there, you can also have your altenator checked a bouncy charge needle usually indicates an open diode, which means that the alternator has to be replaced

Could be IAC, vacuum hoses, different grade of gas, change in height, or maybe charging system.
