headlight upgrade?

im looking to upgrade my stock headlights. i wanted to kow if its worth spending 200$ on hid setup. after some research, iv found a bunch of people selling xenon filled regular bulbs claiming theyre hid for under $40. the real hid upgrade is at least $200. is the difference in performance worth the difference in price. i havent heard many people mention the pros and cons of true hid lights.i drive on dark highways often, and the extra light would help. are the benefits worth the price, or should i get the fake hid bulbs? thanks for the help

I wouldn't. What about Sylvania Silverstars. Gets the job done.

I got the Silverstar bulbs..... they work for me, it would be awhile before I would want to spend $200 on the true hid lights

Silverstars actually improve the light output, they aren't just whiter or bluish in color. Most cheap Xenon/Blue/hid-like bulbs don't actually improve nighttime vison, they just change the color of the light output from yellowish to bluish or purpleish. Silverstars actually improve visibility at night.

Has Sylvania improved the quality on their Silverstars? I've read to many people reporting that they die after a few months. I think even Sylvania says they're good for only about a year. I don't know about you guys, but at $40 for a set each year I think I'll just stick to their Xtra-Vision Halogens.

Not sure on the sylvania lights but damn....the lights are nothing to write home about that come stock. If the HID setup is truley HID.....it would not be a bad deal. True HID have a new light harness, transformer and other acces. to deal with the current draw. Never seen them for 200....more like 500-800.

Wish my GP lights were like my 87 suburban......you can see to the next state with those....lol

thanks for the advice. the more opinions the better. the real hid setups are anywhere from 200 - 350$. they really came down in price. a few years ago the were like 1500, then about 800 2 years ago. the output in lumens is significantly higher, and they only draw about 35 watts. i belive the stock bulbs are 55 watts? just looking for some opinions before i drop 200 bucks.

I got the NAPA Xenon brite light when one of mine went out. huge difference in brightness over the stock one and half the price of the Sylvania. I might get a Sylvania for the other side for comparison. Also get the lens cleaner/reconditioner. makes a big difference.

I bought a cheap plastic cleaner at AutoZone and cleaned my headlight covers.

I then bought the Sylvania Silver Stag Headlight bulbs & the Fog lights. I've had them for about a month, and love the brighter light for less color temperature. If you want to drop some real $$, buy the PIAA brand bulbs, they're like $70 for a pair.
