A/C for LS400

The A/C has apparently gone out on my Lexus. :(

I have checked what I could check given the location of the parts, but I fear that it's merely the fuse. Does anyone know where the A/C fuse is located? I'd rather not shell out the $1000+ for an entire A/C system. Also, how mayone acquire a shop manual for these things? If anyone has any info for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Question-
Has the entire unit failed or is it just not generating cool air?

Aloha,
Mine is the same. Press the a/c button and compressor doesn't turn on. Don't know where the fuse is, except the one above driver side kick panel. There is another fuse somewhere. I ordered a manual but it is going to take 3 months to get to Hawaii.

I believe the AC fuse box is on the right side to of the Engine Bay. kanakamaoli, have you tried removing all of the covers to see if it's exposed and reachable?

Aloha,
Found that one. Fuse ok. Same problem. Press the a/c button and light will come on but the compressor will not.

If you are low on Freon the a/c pressure switch will not allow the clutch
to engage.

Aloha,
Good idea. This would be a good time to retrofit to R134A. I should buy a home kit from Walmart. Do you think that I could just change the fittings and recharge with R134A or does the system have to be completely dry?

kanakamaoli: I would recommend getting a Toyota one or even one from the 94 model year. They might work better with the 91 ECU, but don't quote me on it. If it turns out to be more expensive, Walmart might be the way to do this.

Aloha,
Good idea. Only thing is the Lexus dealer here won't sell parts over the counter. What model Toyota supplement? Camry? Toyota would be better than the walmart one for sure. THanks.

I'm not sure what car it share parts with. If you can get part numbers from a 93 or 94 Lexus that could do it too. This way you can search on the Web for the items or use the part number to access companies on the main land. I don't think they will have a problem with it. You should ask Toyota. They can find out the part numbers and the cost. You could also call this number 1-888-628-3247. The Partsbin has parts for Lexus and Toyotas. Ask them for the AC parts for the 93 and 94 LS400s and just have them ship it to you.
