tranny leak question

93 euro 2door with 186K miles.

i lose a good amount of fluid. i put in about a quart each 2-5 weeks depending upon how much i drive. tranny shifts and operates fine with no slippage when full.

the oil change guys (yeah, i don't change my own) tell me its a leaking seal that isn't that expensive a fix. i know doing a flush is taboo. does anyone know what they're talking about and is it worth doing?

A leaking seal that is easily fixed is more likely the output shaft seals. They are cheap and fairly easy to swap out. Changing seals has nothing to do with a transmission flush, which is a bad idea in the first place if it's never been flushed...

Thanks, Corning. Sounds like it may be worth doing then. The money in fluid really isn't too bad but i'd rather not have to worry about it as much. I just wanted to make sure having the seals replaced wouldn't upset my tranny like a flush would.

Nah. All they'll do is remove both axles, pop out the seals, drive new ones in and replace the axles...

The pan bolts might be loose.Go around and tighten them by hand. The pan gasket might be bad also.
