How would you know if you had a leak? I know these intakes are a bad design plastic i cant believe it. Anyhow its for a 01 taurus with the V6 dohc, it only has 50k on it and im getting a bad ping, would a leak cause that ping? I changed gas filter, went up to 89 octane just to see if that would help but no dice. When you hit the accle pedal i can hear air sucking in from the intake, is this normal, and how would i be able to tell for sure i have a leak, thanks for the help

I think there's been other postings on here about leaks, if I remember most said to spray something like brake cleaner, small amounts, around suspected leaks, engine rpm picks up, you got your leak... I could be wrong about the brake cleaner as choice, others feel free to overrule it... just be careful with the overspray, it does funny things to some plastics.

Yeah, I think that was it, carb or throttle body cleaner., however any of these must be used carefully, highly flammable.

The PCM is calibrated for 87 octane fuel. Changing your fuel will give you a ping. Pinging is from a lean mixture. Lean will be from an intake leak or PCM not updated to the latest calibration. Ford has a broad range of programming for different elevations in the world, and for some reason they don't seem to get them correct. You should see if there is any PCM updates for pinging for your vehicle at the delearship.
