Welcome to AF!!
It appears by your description that you have a leaking radiator core. Since the water is coming out of the area where the water comes from the AC, the heater core is in the same place and coolant would drain from there if the core was leaking.

The reason for the drain is to keep the water and coolant out of the car's interior. The heater core if it is leaking will flow the water out through the drain, so I would pull the panel under the dash and check the core especially if the coolant is still draining.

Sounds like a heater core to me. Same problem on my '97 Skylark, also a GM "N-Body" car. Replaced the core in less than an hour and the problem went away instantly.
