I just bought this 98 contour, and I found that there is a vaccum line that comes off of the top of what I believe is the transmission... the other end is not connected to anything, it was just lying over the battery... this is the 4cyl model(automatic trans)... Again, it is cliped onto the top of a black casing that I think belongs to the transmission... it is right below the air duct hose...

Can anyone tell me where the other end of this hose belongs... there is no obvious location, so any help here would be a life saver...

It's not a vacuum hose, it's a vent hose. Normally they have a clip near the end that mounts the hose to the rear stud on the battery hold down. DO NOT PLUG IT UP, or you will F it up. Just make sure that it isn't in the way of anything and vice versa. When I used to work on cars, I would relocate it from the rear to the front of the battery because it can get caught-up/pinched in the air filter housing if you change the filter, and that is bad news. I hope this helps. M
