It's turning this:

http://www.bburago.it/DB_auto/41020.jpg

into this:

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/818899dtmmb.jpg

It's the car that Michael Schumacher drove in DTM in 1991 :) I have already bought the bburago model (it doesn't even have the steering wheel!), but what I need is time (duh!), custom decals, and more pictures of the original Zakspeed MB. Hey, maybe anyone could help me with the last one?

Blimey! Rather you than me!

Mind you, I have just noticed you are from Estonia!!!

Can you get the sort of stuff we build there, stuff like Tamiya and Monogram/Revell?

Stop burdening yourself with over complex projects then and do something more readily available!!!:p

Well, actually I'm in the finishing stages of my first plastic car (1/24), but as I have no airbrush, it will suck. But it's first experience. I learned quite a bit from it (well, from mistake anyway :))

Yeah, email me your address and I will send it over. Providing it isn't more than a few quid to post, otherwise I'll let you know and you can pay for the postage.
Shouldn't be too much though, it doesn't weigh much.
I'd rather someone completes it than it sits up in my loft!

Cool! I am getting much satisfaction out of watching someone build a model that was once mine!!!

Have you borrowed someone's digital camera? You may need to manually focus when doing such smale scale, as I do with mine!

It's a crappy Kodak camera, I will be giving it back today, and I don't think manual focus is possible with it.

Quck question, guys. Should I primer the metal body before I use putty on it, or should I apply putty to bare metal?

What are you trying to do? What sort of putty? Need to know it's chemical base!

ales

Just automotive putty. I have no idea what's in there. But you have to mix components before use... Damn, am I a modelling monkey or what?:)

OK, I will try it on bare metal. What I want to do are the "fat" wheelarches on the Merc (1:43). I'm confident it will work. Eventually...:)

I tried to paint the grille today, actually, add black ove the otherwise chrome grille. But the Humbrol enamel just melted the chrome paint! I guess I should have used Tamiya Acrylic, but guess what, the only model shop in town is out of most of Tamiya paints, as well as the masking tape and wax. The told me that they'd get the shipment this week... No they didn't. Never mind.

So am I right in assuming it was a bad Idea to try and paint with enamel over acrylic? Well, no biggie, just need confirmation that acrylic black will work

Guiddy

Yeah, Tamiya acrylic is really kind to anything, plus washes off really easy if you make a balls up!
Never heard of Humbrol enamel melting anything though!

Will it harden eventually and be water proof?

P.S. Where do you get all those synonyms for "doing something wrong"?:lol2:

Well, one did have to find out sooner or later. It's not that the chrome paint was fresh or anything - it has been 2 weeks now since I sprayed it...:( :(
