I believe the tranny I have is still in good working order but I'm not sure what exactly the problem is that i'm having it has been doin this for a year now I guess it is slipping but in only in low gears. The problem is about around 30 mphs when u hold the pedal steady the sound coming from the exhaust becomes very deep and rpms drop slightly and it will stay this way until you apply more pressure to the pedal. The transmission I guess is rebuild I seen a year ago it was fixed because it would not go into reverse.

sounds to me like its just going into overdrive or upshifting... doesn't really seem like anything is wrong...

ya they upshift to a lower rpm so you save gas, it is normal, my dads 94 camaro did that.

:iagree:
Just the trans trying to save energy.

throttle valve cable could be out of adjustment.

Like everyone else said its normal especially for older trans to shift up early. My 89 drove me nuts with that. Adjusting the tv cable helps a little but dont go nuts with it or you could mess up your transmission.

One year after I got my tranny rebuilt, I had to have it serviced (required if you dont want to void the warranty) and I remember thinking that it was shifting wierd, but after the service(trans fluid flush and filter change) it seemed to shift completely differently. If your trans is under warranty, you may want to double check your paper work to make shure you dont need to take it in for a service, or you may end up voiding your warranty...but wether or not you have to get it serviced, you should have it serviced once a year or every 12k miles. Saves a lot of money in the long run, and you can do it your self if the warranty doesnt require you to have it done at the shop.
Also, if it is under warranty, you should take it back to the shop and take a ride with one of the techs and show him whats bothering you, just to be on the safe side.

I remeber went I first got it it did not do this. But one day I was going about 20 or so and just floored the pedal the car choked like it was about to cut-off but kept running and it has done this ever since.
The reason I ask this is because I want to put a posi-unit and some 3.42 gears on it but with the transmission acting funny I will just burn it out quicker right?

What does the fluid look like?

it will stay in the low gear unless you let off the gas and hit it to the floor then, otherwise it will speed up but it will be bogged.

I went to the trans shop today. The guy said the trans is in good condition but it does shift soft thru the first and second gear. He said the throttle valve needs to be updated and a corvette servo install would help it shift like a camaro should. 400 dollars what do you guys think...

throttle valve update??
i think that's a package deal with a muffler bearing?
The vetter servo would help, but do you already have a shift improver kit installed?

Hey,
I'm having a similar problem with my 92 RS. Reading thru here you guys mention adjusting the throttle valve, where is it located and what adjustments can be made and what does this do? Is this difficult for a low time do-it-yerselfer?

So what do you guys think 400 for a servo and throttle value updates?? By the way no I dont have a shift kit is that the problem??

What did the shop say about the fluid? Did they say it was time for a change, or did you already change it and had no effect? The condition of the fluid itself does have an effect on trans performance.
If the servo is bad, why dont you just change it yourself? Its a simple job.

if you look at the throttle linkage on the tbi unit, the top cable is the throttle cable, the bottom one goes to the trans, follow the bottom one back a few inches or so and you should see a bracket the bracket has a little push button on it, u use that button to adjust the tv cable
but usually a stuck tv cable will make your tranny stay in gear too long, doesn't make it shift early, at least not from my experience it never made it shift early, made it shift late....
