3000gt vs. 240sx

What up guys? my 1991 nissan 240sx died and i was looking for a new car and bought a 92 gt sl... :grinyes: really good cond. targa top and everything! My question is what you think is a better car 240sx, 3000gt, 300zx?

The reason I am asking is because on the 240sx forum they were hateing on the 3000gt :banghead: and I want both sides of the story. Anyway the only real drawbacks to the gt is maybye weight, and fwd on the sl...

Targa...top?

And I'm sick of hearing people hating the 3KGT's. Those 240's would be lucky to be seeing 16.0 stock, and they know it. Plus, VR-4's will just rape the crap out of them, not to mention that our cars, while being heavy, certainly have the potential to make up for it.

I have raced a 240sx before. It pulled on me when it was in 3rd gear going 60 like my car pulls in 5th gear going 40. They are so slow! I dropped my car down to 3rd and before I could blink my eye the 240sx was in my rearview mirror.

As for me, I had a 240sx before, it has more potential overall, cause of weight, 2700lbs vs 3100lbs, RWD, and also, the 240 has abundant parts, you can inter-change from skyline to 300zx. If you're going out all race mod, you might want the 240.
BUT, the VR-4 is capable of alot of power + AWD which will probably kill you on handling.
For sex appeal, the 99 3KGT wins flawlessly, it looks much better.

well it depends what you want to do... I know a few guys with like 300+RWHP 240sx's and they still get 22MPG in the city if they drive it right...

Dont be so tough on the 240 guys hating on us. they have thier reasons. the n/a are hopeless cars unless you do a TT conversion but for the money you spend you'd be better off just getting a VR-4 but if you do then you can drop 20 grand into it and still run nothing better then 12's.

If you like a car that from the box is a luxury sports car then get the 3000GT.
fact: Stock for stock the SL and the base non-turbo 3000GT is faster then any 240sx.
Fact: the VR-4 is considered an entry class supercar, in fact insurance companies have them under "urban exotic"
fact: when the Stealth RT-TT came out the magazines rated it as an "affordable Ferrari"
fact: any auto designer will explain to you why the 3000GT has some of the finest, most unique body lines ever designed. on paper our cars are much more aero dynamic then Supras and GT-Rs.

Fact: for less money you can make a SR20DET faster then a VR-4.
Fact: there are more tunners and suppliers for the 240 then there are for the 3000GT.
Fact: the 240/Silvia competes world wide in more motorsports then the 3000GT, stealth and GTOs. So its much more race proven.

If you like a car that out of the box is a supercar and can go toe to toe with a Vette or a Porche then get a VR-4

if your broke but want a car that looks like a supecar and will get you loads of females, get the SL or base 3000GT

if you have money and tunners to spare and want a bad ass real-life street racer get a 240sx.

Yeah must be "sport roof", one of my friends said it was a targa top but he talks out of his ass sometimes:screwy: ... basicly it is a full roof of glass you can crank up or take out.

Thanks for coments that is what i was telling them on the 240 forum< at least you guys are fairly level headed, but they surre know there shit over there. so props to both! they were also complaining about the weight as it pertains to handling, however i tried to explain that the 3000gt feels like a heavy car, but if you can take the pressure then the car can too in my experience. but 240s are very easy to drive. So I can see good points in both cars but for someone like me who cant afford/ doesnt have the workspace/ mechanical knowlege to do a turbo setup or engine swap, 3000gt is much better for me now. and looks - you cant beat 300gt for its price! I mean girls look at me all the time now and most of them think its a ferrari  lol..

Musashi said it great. And in the end, there is no replacement for displacement. The 3kgt is one of the sexiest cars around (opinion). The 240sx I dont think is that attractive at all but as said it has potential with some $$$ put into it. Everyone is always freaking out about the weight of the car. God forbid a 3200-3700 lb car handles great which they do. I've driven other sports cars (not a 240sx) which weighed under 3000lbs and they couldn't touch the 3kgt stock. As said above, if you want a fast econobox then get the 240sx, if you want a entry level supercar get a 3000gt. I believe the 3000gt will hold its value better than a 240sx. I do like the 300zx. I drove one when shopping for my 3000gt. They do handle nicely but are terrible in bad weather. So if you are planning on driving this as a daily driver I would go with a fwd or awd car. I'd say in the end, you should test drive both and see what you think about handling, power, and looks. I think you'll be pleasently surprised how well the 3kgt handles. Good Luck

I can explain that too.
The 3000GT is under a class of car know as "Grand Tourer"
These are cars designed for open highways with long travelling journeys. They can be fast and nimble but typicly a GT car has a load of comfort features dropped into it so the driver dossent regret having bought the car 20 miles down the road.
The VR-4 is a GT car with loads of creature comfort. It was intended from its first scetches to be a highway car for open road use and long miles without boardem.
Just like the Ferrari Scalletti and the Bently Continental GT (which I might add you dont see competing in motorsports either)
The Skyline GT-R and Supra where also designed as GT cars but the difference is that Toyota and Nissan made those cars thier flagship models and invested much more interest into them after they bagan selling. They moded them to carry the company logo in such races as the JGTC and 24 hours of LeMans. They became the advertise car for thier company and hence the tunner interest which lead to a great aftermarket. The 3000GT had a different fate. It was not Mitsubishi's flagship because mitsu saw its platform for combat in the Lacer Evolution series and diverted all the companies attention to Rally marketing.
The 3000GT therefore remains a true GT car just like the Ferrari and Bently.
you cant compare a nissan 240sx to a Bently can you? No course not.
but again that depends on your character.
If your a boy racer who dossent care if his car has a black hood on a red body with primered bodykit as long as it runs 12 then there's you Silvia knock off.
If your a sophisticated chap who'd rather drive into a vallet parking and have the ladies stare and the men envy then here are your keys to your 3000GT my good man.

I am Musashi

I looked at that thread in the 240sx section and I was not the least bit impressed by what was said. I could give two shits less that they may hate our cars (were used to it, 3kgt is hated by most ricers so we've heard our fair share of BS). I only read the first page (perhaps thats all I could take) and all they said was the 3/s is ugly, heavy, only good for drag racing and that rwd out-performs anything. Let me tell you I'm
impressed , just not in a good way. I think you 3/S members should take a look at it. You'll get a kick out of it:iceslolan . Somethings were said that were reasonable but for the most part they are just trying to hate a classy car:sunglasse . Any car can be fast and handle well with enough mods and by then usually isn't even the original car they started off with. I guess if you believe everything over there then you deserve a 240sx. I'm out of here. :smokin:

hold on hold on, Lets not talk smack bout the 240s. They are excellent tunner cars and very very diversable. They compete in tons of motorsports that 3000GTs cant touch. They are just different cars thats all.

well put Musashi! I fully respect you now:thumbsup: , congrats. Dont get me wrong, I still love my 240, but the gt is also very fun to drive and Im used to the wight because a 5.0 firebird was my first car, plus like was stated the comforts and looks I enjoy:smokin: . Well I appreciate all of the coments they all made sense.

Another question i have is how these motors last when properly maintained? My sl is at 140000 right nowi think i can count on it to at least 200000 right? who on here has the most miles?

AutostradaVR4
02-09-2006, 07:34 PM
ive only got 90k on my vr4...i think theres someone on here who is pushing 300k. Anyways, run good gas/oils and do any maintenence needed and you will have no problem hitting 200k. I beleve there was a thread on how many miles everyone had a few months back...maybe someone can link you.

so, what mods do you plan on doing, if any?

COOL! 300,000 would be awsome! my 240 had almost 250,000 on it and the motor was still great!

As far as mods go I'm not exactly sure yet, Ive got a sub box comming in that fits in the little space that is between the back seats and the real beggining of the trunk. It holds two tens. so that will be cool to save space.:sunglasse

Now Im trying to figure out if I want to go with an aftermarket intake or just a high flow filter in the stock air box, I tried to reasearch it but nothing came up, does anyone know the differences in gains vs. these methods?

Also as far as long term, I was wondering if there is a supercharger kit for the 3000gt? id be into that and Im getting 1000 back from taxes so that would be a good start.

Other than that maybye a downpipe and high flow cat, ngk plugs and wires. any coments on that?

AutostradaVR4

Stock K&N filter will help....but not as much as an actual cone/FIPK.

supercharging a 3/s is not worth it (IMO), its cheaper to do a TT conversion...

as for other mods...everything you listed (plugs, wires, cat/exhaust, downpipe) those are all good ways to get your HP up. Just look at some of the guys on here's signiture and see what mods they have.

Hold on hold on, I wasn't talking smack about the 240. I see your point. I just wasn't impressed at the 240 forum, that is all. I also said they can be fast (as ANY car can be with mods). I just don't really like the car, sorry. Just a preference.

Alright, I'll look into a TT kit, and see if its doable for me, thanks. I just thought it would be really cool to have a supercharged one, unique and all! but it would be hard to do also. Is it easy to get to the plugs? my old firebird had one against the firewall (it sucked royal donkey testicles)!
