Number 2 cylinder has sporatic misfire??

1996 XJ 4.0 auto 4X4
1. First of all if i am standing under the hood looking a the motor, What cylinder is the number 2? The second one or the forth one?
2. What all could cause a sporatic misfire in one cylinder? I have replaces the plugs and wires and distrributor cap and rotary button not too long ago.
3. What is the best book i could buy to give DETAILED information, maybe even pics, or repairing my motor?
