electrical problems

I found this message board while searching for help on a newly purchased 1998 Ford Ranger. The biggest thing right now is trying to get the dash lights to work. The fuses are good and it isn't in the dimmer switch on the dash (I don't think). The truck doesn't show as a "flood vehicle" but the wiring problems seem to follow that scenario...corrosion, etc.
Does anyone have any hints on where to start with these dash lights? Thankyou.

First thing to check in an electrical system malfunction is 12 volts to both sides of the fuse, not only will that tell you if you are getting 12 volts to the fuse, but it will tell you if the fuse is good. With the light switch on you should get 12 volts to fuse 7 on the I/P fuse panel. it should be a 7.5 amp fuse

First of all I would address the corrosion trouble.Any poor contact will effect the system.Also a poor contact will cause an arc which creats heat.This could lead to a meltdown of components and possibly a fire.

That has happened to me also. No dashlights, but then noticed I also have no park/taillights... I was able to get the lights to work if I just feathered the lightswitch back in about 1/8 of an inch... heard the ding, ding, ding and I had all my lights, move the switch and I get nothing but headlights, I have replaced the switch, new wiring harness to the switch and now the kicker.... I still have the same issue!! :screwy:
