number 1 & 2 on my fan control quit working. the fan works ok on number 3,4,& 5. went to my dealer and told him about the problem and that i had an extended warranty. i wanted to make sure this would be covered by the extended warranty and he started giveing me a story about the fine print on the extended contract so i told him to forget it and i walked out. anyone out there have this problem and if so what was the cure? the only thing he mentioned was possibly the heater motor resistor. thanks in advance..............mike

First off at least he mentioned the most likely culprit, and secondly i would go to a different dealership, there is no need for being a dick about it, why not just say weather or not is is covered? I hate service reps that don't know and are too lazy to find out. Last fall i lost all but the highest speed for the blower motor and it turned out that the blower motor was seizing up causing too much load on the resistors which caused them to blow. As for where they are located i am not sure, but if i remember correctly there was possibly once detailed instructions on how to change them or at least where the resistors are located, just search the forum using the keyword resistor, good luck.

My fan does next to nothing on 1 and 2 - figured it was standard issue. Been that way since I bought it new. 2001 Silverado.

thanks for your responses, it was the resistor, i just finished it myself in about 1 hour, works good now. the dealer told me it was a 2 hour job @75.00 per hr. i went to my local NAPA store and he had the part plus he suggested that i change the cabin filter also. the hardest part of the job was getting one of the cover screw back in...........mike
