Blazer has a reverse problem

-wonderful site, been looking for some answers when I came accross it!

I just received a 94 S-10 Blazer from my friend (she did not want the headache) it drives fine in all forward moving gears- but the reverse does not work. You can put it in 4-WD Low and use reverse and it moves just a little. You can hear some popping in the rear end in reverse. Someone suggested that it may be the rear differental? Any ideas or suggestions please??

I would say it's an internal trans problem, definitely not rear end. Either the reverse clutch pack is burned, or the teeth on the shell are stripped where it mounts on the sun gear. I think that is a common problem on older 700R4's. Those are internal trans problems that will mean R & R and overhaul.

If your differential was the problem you wouldn't be able to move forwards either.

I'm going to have to agree with both of the guys above...:thumbsup:
I wuold say you should probably take it to a REPUTABLE and Recomended Trans shop and get it looked at. Talk to some people in your area and find out who does good, high quality - hopefully reasonable - work.
Unless you hae the right tools, and a firm understanding of transmissions, I wouldn't recommend trying to tackle it yourself.
