01 Trooper Check Engine Light

In an attempt to recover a couple extra MPG, I changed my spark plugs (with Bosch Plugs). I forgot to attach the last wire and went for a test drive. I immediately realized what I had done and reconnected the wire. Shortly thereafter my check engine light came on. It is solid while idling and flashes while driving. I'm assuming this is what caused the light. I am at almost exactly 75k miles. The light does come on as a scheduled maintenance reminder (but doesn't flash).

This is also the first time I havre changed plugs in this type of ignition sysyem (with the individual coils on top of each plug). I never felt any sort of connection between the new plugs and the "wire tube things" (techie jargon)... The vehicle seems to be running fine.

Can anyone tell me if this may go off by itself or do I need to have it reset? If so, how long is the cycle until it goes out?

First I would reset the ECU by disconecting the battery for 15-30 mins.

if that doesn't work it probably that Isuzu don't like bosch plugs:

"It has been suggested that bosch platinum plugs commonly cause the CEL to come on in +98 Isuzu's."

I'm sure someone else will chime in (... Joel or Ryan :evillol:) but it sounds as if you have the classic flashing CEL due to installing the wrong plugs in an Isuzu that has the Ion Sensing ignition system (2001+).

Yes, scrap the bosch plugs. Too bad you didn't catch this forum first! :banghead: The 2000+ are very particular due to the ion sensing ignition system. Replace with denso (sparkplugs.com), the champions specified in the manual or word has it, regular ol' NGK's work as well. The CEL does not come on at regular intervals to prompt for maintenance. Make sure you keep coil #6 only at #6. It's the coil nearest the brake booster. It's a shorty coil due to space constraints.
