Well Vtec didn't work... I am going to the school to register for summer school. I am leavin cruisin down the road totally kicked this pesky new eclipse's ass and pull to the light. take off then my car start boggin like hell. The metal peice inside the rotor wore the plastic out so it chewed the teeth out of my cap. Got some parts (thankfully a friend drove by) went back to the shop for them to come in and went back to the car. put the shit on turned out the distributor shaft is bent!! had it towed to the shop and took it off. Spun the bearing inside of the distributor. To top it off it ruined the stator inside it and the shaft rubbed into the bottom of the coil. Now to remind you that the coil is about an inch away for the reluctor ring. Anyways thought I would share my pain and misery with you. If anyone comes across a JDM pre OBD distributor for a b16a call me and i'll buy the bitch. I don't feel like spending 500 from M+R motorsports. Make me an offer!!! lol... the pain of no car... I had a hott date tonight too!

Well a new one from Japan will cost about US$500 so the M+R one sounds like a good deal.

Or you could just buy a complete engine over here for $500 and get it shipped and landed and through customs for another $500. and that would give you everything, g/box, ECU, axles etc. :D

But you dont need a Dizzy from a pre OBD B16a, since they are the same as the OBD1 dizzys. (infact to convert an OBD II car to OBD I you use the Dizzy from a pre 92 B16a.)
So you might find that a dizzy from a pre 96 model GSR will work.

Thanks moppie i didn't know that. Well I'm just gonna buy a 90 Teg one provided I knock one of the legs off. Its just gonna be a quick fix. It seems as if you are really the only one who replies to my post because you always know what da hell you are talking about. Thanks!

or just rebuild yours...the only thing specific to the b16a is the housing...i know for a fact that the ignitor from my old d16 was the same as my b16a one (i had to replace it)...and i have a strange feeling that my whole d series dizzy will fit...i have yet to try it...dont feel constrainted to buy the bearing from an autoparts store or the honda dealer either, just get the dimensions offa the old bearing and order it directly from a manufacturer (skf, etc) or an industrial supplier...just ask to look at a catalogue and compare...

eh.. Got a deal. Brand new dizzy with a 5 year warranty for 4 years. 235 bucks lol. Well all of the dizzys look the same internally the only real difference is the bolt pattern to the head. I was so tempted to take my d-series dizzy and put some damn clamps on it to hold it on but that was after I cut the legs off lol. My dizzy is beyond repair sorry. Distributor shaft bent and hit the bottom of the coil screw the stator and igniter inside of it. Besides the bearing froze. I took that bitz off and couldn't even turn it with my hands! I slaped it in a vice and just grinded when I turned it. The sound alone made me want to throw up. there was also metal shaving in it when I took it out to top it off. Well now i got a dizzy for 150 with a 4 year warranty lucky me! Thanks!

ohh yeah forgot to metion Moppie... Would a bad tps make vtec not engage? I read code 7 (tps) 8+9 (sensors inside the dizzy) and 17 (VSS). I had the VSS fixed but was wondering if the sensors got screwed in the dizzy would those effect vtec engagement? Thanks for anyone who can help me.

As far as I know VTEC only needs: Oil pressure, oil temp, Vechile speed, and the right RPM.

However its quite possible that any code could cause it to be disabled.

Honda ECUs seem to be very smart little units.
For example there are two compete fuel and igntion maps stored for each set of cam profiles and the limiter for low speed profile is set 1,000rpm lower. (so if you wind your car out before its warmed up it hits the limiter at 7,200rpm).

As for useing another Dizzy I would try one from an old B20a powered prelude, you might find you wont have to cut anything off it to make it fit, since the B16a is a development of that engine.

yeah I knew that if it was cold it would limit at 7,200 RPM. But anyways I have another b16a Dizzy I am getting for 150. I am gonna put it on and see if my vtec works then. If not I'll get a tps because that was the only code I was reading before. Thanks for your help once again Moppie.
