Swapping a keyless entry system in a 94

Due to a recent encounter with one of Kansas's wild deer I am having to replace my 94 GTP which is like throwing away an old pair of house shoes. I have had it for years and it just fit, if you know what I mean. But on the good side, my Son-in-law works at Carmax and just so happens another 94 came in on trade and it is an immaculate, one owner, wit a few small differences. One of the differences is it doesn't have keyless entry like my old one. It does have electrice locks and trunk release though. My question is this, is there like a black box I can just switch and then use my remote units to operate the new locks? As you can see I know nothing about how this works. I also have another question about the sound sytem. My original had a premium tape unit and I am guessing some kind of upgraded speakers. They had great base response alomost like some powered subs do. I never saw the need to replace them with aftermarkets to go along with my Clarion CD unit. The new car has the standard tape unit. Swapping that to the Clarion is no problem. Is there any difference in the speakers? And if so I will swap them also. If I swap them is there anything else I have to take along to get the sound I had in the first car? Only other difference is the new car is not a GTP but an SE. In all reality I will not miss the upkeep on the X-motor and I welcome the 3.1. That only leaves the sunroof but that is probably to major to deal with :) Thanks in advance for any help.

Swapping the speakers is straight forward. The remote entry, forget it. If the car wasn't factory equipped (give me the last 8 of the vin and I can tell you if it was) the wiring isn't there for the module.

Pretty easy to get another installed as well......and make it a remote start!!!

I just called the local Pontiac dealer and he told me that I would have to swap the computer as well as the locks themselves to transfer the keyless entry. I can get an aftermarket for as little as $69.00 so I will go with that. I'll have to see how much the model with remote start is, but I do need a source of exercize :), starting the car on a cold morning was one. :)

Are you sure the new car didn't have keyless entry, and you just didn't get a transmitter? Your local dealer can run the vin (or post the last 8 digits here and I can for you) to see if it is. If it is, all you have to do is program the transmitter from your old car to work with the new one (they both use the same transmitter).

i agree with rich. if it has electric locks and windows, and it is a gtp, then it probably had the remotes to begin with. if it did all you need is the remote and you can program it yourself pretty easily. plus remotes are generally pretty cheap on ebay. if it did not come with the remotes, another option is to get an aftermarket alarm. i know here in texas you can get an alarm installed for 99.00 with lock/ unlock, panic and trunk features on the remotes. consider all options, sometimes it is cheaper to go with the aftermarket.

Newer GP is an SE and not a GTP. I got the aftermarket unit with locks, trunk, and panic but got it at $80-something due to Son-in-laws discount. Thanks for the suggestions though. Now what to do with the GTP.

I had a 91 SE that had keyless entry, just so you know they did come with it. It's not a GTP only option.
