Gaerbox oil

Have 1997 golf with a 020 transmision.My quistion is if Valvoline Gear Oil
sae 75w-90 GL-5 will be good oil for the transmision.VW manuel says to use 75w-90 GL-4.Will it make any diffrence ? What is the diffrence between the
GL-4 and GL-5 anyway ? :) We don't have the redline oil here where I live that everybody's been talking about.

actually i prefer mobile one synthetic gear lube 75-90 more than redline due to redline supposedly gets thinner with higher trans temps (extended driving or racing)

gl4 is older than gl5

the time at which your car was produced gl4 was the best. now gl5 is the best.

Thankyou veedubmechanic.That clear's up my consern for putting wrong
olie in my box that might damage things in the long run.I'm gonna change
as soon as weather permits.The oil have never been changed and I got
140 000 km on the clock.
