Radio problems

The stock radio in my 94 3kgt is screwed up. Sometimes its fine, but then just out of no where, it just goes quiet. when it does this, i can turn the volume all the way up and hear the sound, only a bit fuzzy. but then the next day i get in the car, and its better, so it blasts my ears off. I dont know whether its the radio, or the antenna. The tape player works fine. I took out the antenna and hooked it directly into the radio, thinking it could just be the cord that runs between them, but that didnt work either. any ideas?

Ideas?? Get a new headunit.

probably the radio, the amp built inside the head unit maybe faulty, i.e overheating through age and once it has cooled down enough it will work again. had this a few times on various cars:iceslolan :naughty:

treat yourself to a new unit, not worth trying to repair the old one.:nono:

sounds like the tuner section is faulty or there may be bad solder joints.

It's probably a dirty contact on the volume nob/switch...

If you are really stuck for cash and time you can take the headunit apart and trying blasting the dirt out with electirical contact cleaner while twisitng the volume nob back and forth which might give you a 50/50 chance of fixing the problem.

Or taking a soldering iron and trying to find a replacement online in a electronics catalogue (and get raped in shipping)

Or you can spend less then $200 replace it with a aftermarket head unit installed which sounds way better then stock.

just get a cd player put on it...fuck a stock...i gotta get my 3k radio changed since it was an anti theft shit that if u take out the stock radio it wont work...you only got 2 chances to put in a code for it to work again, but once you blow those 2 chances....shit wont work...it just ses "oFF"...ima get my shit pretty soon..

You can reset that.;) There are a few methods. One you can disconnect the battery, one you can turn your ignition to the on position and let it sit for a period of time. Not sure if its 10 minutes or 30 minutes but you can still have chances to put your code in.

correct. i had this happen to me. you have to let the car sit with the ignition in the ON position for either 30 mins or 1 hr. i forget which. but that was the first time i locked my keys in the car! haha. happens to the best of us :grinyes:
