Yet another Conversion

Well, yea I know, not another 99 Conversion, but i'm proud being as it was a 91 and i did all the hacking myself. This is what I have after a couple hours of hacking, grinding, going to lowes for cutting disks. I have everything finally flush and even on 1st gen buckets. I used 95 Stealth lights and a deft cabon fiber hood. Still waiting on 99 turns tho.

Nope, the 3000GT lights are curved at the corner to flow with the bumper, as opposed to the stealth lights which are streight to be flush mount wit the turn signal. Using 3kGT lights would leave a small empty triangle in between the light and turn signal.

Right on Knight....very nice work! I'm still super impressed by you guys who could do all the work yourselves. I understand how shops do it because they have all the tools/materials/resources and so forth but for you do-it-yourselfers, that's always impressive. Good job!!!

The turn signals mount to the headlight and to the fender, so you have nothing to worry about. You will see how it all works when you get them.

Are you gonna update to 2nd-gen. sides as well to better match the front?

I'm not really crazy about 3sx's 2nd version of their lip, I would kill for the one peice first version tho, but there too rare, i'm gonna attempt to get a kaze, as for the sides, I am leaning towards second gen sideskirts and rear bumper unless the front lip makes the rest of the car look too low, then i might want ot get a lower side skirt.

Do you have a pic of this Kaze lip? I just tried googling "kaze 3000gt" and only saw a bunch of riced-out, mutilated cars.

i saw that guys car on 3si. it was basically a complete transformation. started out as a green 93 (?) rt/tt, and ended up as that beauty. great taste in aftermarket body panels and bumpers and rims, if i may say so.

I don't like how that car looks; the front-lip is too big on the sides, it's missing the fins by the foglights, and the OEM 2nd-gen. 3000GT sides are nicer than any other designs.

i know what your sayin'. it never looks good when the front is lower than the side....like the classic ricer who only has enough money for the front bumper of the body kit so thats all they get lol. looks retarded.

those 99 lights are freakin' expensive! and IMO don't look that much better than 2nd gens (not enough to merit buying them).

99' lights = $500 EACH

HID retrofit = $500 max TOTAL.

light output of HID retrofit > any year model 3S lights

Don't forget that if you're looking for perfect fitting lights in a 99' front end w/o having to buy the bubble lights, the second gen. stealth headlights fit perfectly without any holes.

So does anyone know if it could be done on plastic lights?

As for the front lip being lower then the rest of the car, wouldnt it be crazy to buy bomex sides and cut off the bottom, smaller "scoop" and molding them on to second gen side skirts.....hmm....lol

there's nothing to worry about melting plastic. most of the heat is contained in the shroud and behind the glass lens.

i'm doing a HID retro-fit on my 1st gen headlights. i'm using a plastic material (similar to Lexan) to cover the headlights. it should work fine. i have a friend that uses stock plastic headlamp housings on his prelude for his HID retrofit.

so you've heard of other 3S people doing HID retrofits? point me in there direction. when i brought it up on 3si, it was almost a new thing (except for another member did a retro fit on his 1st gen...his was single xenon, mine is bi-xenon).

Conversion looks good but later on down the line you will end up kicking yourself for not going ahead and getting 2g buckets. Also did you get the headlights wired properly so all 4 headlights are on at highbeam? If not check out my post in the FAQ.

Linebckr49 the retrofits i'v seen on 3si have been on second gens, I can still try to find them if you want.

Stealthee, Why do you say i will be kicking my self for not getting 2G buckets? After hacking and making sure the cuts were streight with a level and raising the rear of the lights with washers, i'v almost got the little internal levels on the headlights centered. The gap between the bumper and headlights will go away once I actualy bolt the bumper on, its just held on by a couple of bolts so i can easily remove it for painting.

Because everyone I have conversed with about this have all said they wish they went with the 2g buckets. It makes for a MUCH cleaner install. And as for the gaps did you only get the 99 bumper? There are "brackets" that go in the headlight area of the bumper that are needed or else gaps are still going to be apparent. Also the "gasket" that goes around the headlight on 94-98's is actually on the 99 headlights so that also fills a gap.

In reality it probably would have been quicker to go with the 2g buckets than hacking the first gens. It takes all of 30 minutes to an hour to have the buckets swapped with little measurement needing to be taken. With hackig you cut so far then test fit then do some more then test fit. Now you have to use washers to level the light up and the bolt holes dont line up to mount the headlight in the bucket.

And yeah you didnt answer my question, did you get the headlights wired properly?

I am currently doing the wiring now :) thank you for pointing out your wiring diagram, I just had the low beams wired and all I need left to pass inspection are the highbeams. As for the rest of the 99 parts, I have all the circled parts minus the headlight buckets coming in the mail

18 and 19 are the brakcets I was speaking of. :cool: Alot of people ignore them but they are well worth the extra money spent.

Even though I have a 2g already I am going to be replacing my headlight buckets. My passenger side was smashed in a collision with deer before I bought the car and the body shop just welded in metal instead of replacing the bucket like they should have. It makes things not properly line up in my front end so when I actually have some extra monethats going to be one of my MANY projects on the Stealth/

Knight, i found Yinlun's hid retrofit you know where http://www.3si.org/forum/showthread.php?t=286884 . he said he was gonna do a write-up with pics, but never did. his write-up wouldn't benefit me since its a 2nd gen and have a 1st gen which is much more difficult. plus, the retrofit on the 2nd gen should be inherently EASY since it comes stock with projector halogen headlights. to swap in projector HID units wouldn't be hard at all.
