Lowering on 17s

Just wondering how low I'll be able to lower my car with 17inch rims (205/40/17) without Wheel rub. THanks

i lowered mine 2 inches and i had a lil room up front. so you could go with 2.5 or maybe even 3 if you were careful enough, but only on the front because 2 inches on the back on my car almost tucked my 17's.

2 inches is kinda like the rule of thumb... at this stance... i would suggest getting a camber correction kit already...

Ya camber kit...good. I've heard horror stories about people that don't have camber kits on their lowered rides. I plan on getting Skunk 2 coilovers, with possible their camber kit. I might want to go cheaper on the camber kit, still thinking about it.

dont scrimp on the camber kit... i know buyin car parts are expensive... but dont lose quality over the price... this is your suspension... the part of the car that always is on the pavement... buy a name-brand quality part... or atleast a quality part... haste makes waste, man... do it right now so u dont have to fix it later... also... buy yourself a new set of shock... droppin 2 inches on stock shocks equals your shock blowin out... oh yeah... wid coilovers... u gotta put anti-seize on them every month... cuz if not... the coilovers wont move anymore... i have no experience with that first-hand... but ive been told word of mouth from all of my friends who have lowered rides...

this is a serious question, what does a camber kit do?

theres more about this in the 92+ civic FAQ... but basically... the double wishbone suspension adds sum negative camber for traction when the car is at a lower stance... the camber is only supposed to be there temporarily like when u have alotta people in the the car... but when the car is lowered... the suspension automatically adds the negative camber... and any camber is bad since it causes uneven tire wear... with negative camber... the inside portion (side closer to the chassis) wears quicker than the outter... this is a hazard... so the camber correction kit does what it sez... it corrects the camber until u reach 0(zero) camber... oh yeah... and the lower the car... the more negative camber u have...

Well I lowered my car with Ground Control coilovers on my 17's. At first I lowered it like over 3 inches, but that was way too low, so now she sits at about a 2-2/12 inch drop, and she's fine. Only time it ever rubs is if I make a fast u turn or turn too hard (if I have 4 people in the car, or there's a fat person in the passenger seat, it will too though :rolleyes: lol), but you just learn not to do that. All it's rubbing anyways is the inside liner of the wheel well, so it's really no big deal at all.
Oh, and I just did the "home depot style" camber kit with the bolts and washers in the rear. My camber really wasn't that off, because you can't really lower a car all that much on 17s, so I just spent a few bucks on bolts and washers and straightened up the rear in a few minutes. :)

im on stock 13's on my 98 hatch with yokohama paradas, and i dropped it 2.5 in front and 2.3 in back with Intrax springs, and my front rubs on turns. if i had any bigger wheels, i wouldnt move.

hey i just got mine lowered 2 in front and 1.5 in back on 17" tenzo av-7's. it rubs and like u turns and that stuff. handling is improved but i am still gonaa get sway bars and other suspension mods. and q's just pm me.
