Nikon has announced that they will no longer make film cameras with the exception of a couple of "Pro" models.
And Minolta has announced they are ceasing production of cameras COMPLETELY.:banghead:

Bah!stards
My mom has a great Minolta film camera that I was hoping to inherit at some point, but now it doesn't matter because I won't be able to buy any extras for it.
Silliness.

Well the film cameras will never be outdated, "modern" 35mm has been around for over 90 years now, and my 1953 Argus works as well today as it did in 1953 (which may not actually be saying that much) but can you imagine that any digital camera could still be useful 50 years from now?
So long as the film is produced people will use their cameras - and as long as the cameras still work, people will be using film.

Minolta is going to work with Sony so they can make better cameras (like one that is actualy worth owning), and they will still make lenses for thier existing range, as well as the proposed Sony range.
Basicly Sony finnaly realised that while they know how to make good electronics, they no nothing about cameras.
Minolta on the other hand make great cameras, but know nothing about making electronics.
So they should be a good partnership, just remember that Sony is driven my world leading marketing, not world leading products.
