dumb question :X

i am going to the junkyard the weekend and i want to know, how can you tell what year a car is if it doesnt have a door plaque or a sticker under the hood? is there another way? trying to find a donor car for disc brake conversion, last time i was only able to tell by digging thru the glove compartment for past paperwork.

Its sometimes possible to look at the rear of front lights. sometimes it will give the date for which car they fit to, but sometimes it gives you a range of years. Hopefully it will give you a rough estimate. good luck.

Doesn't the VIN number also tell year of manufacture?

what car are you talking about? different cars change their looks and internals at different times, if you tell us which car it is someone might be able to tell you some specifics. also what year are you looking for.
