1997 PA door lock delay

I bought my PA last September. According to the users manual, there is supposed to be an option to delay the locking of all of the doors until five seconds after they have all been closed. This option is supposed to be "on" by default. I have checked the Driver Information Computer and it indicates that it is active. I can't get it to work as it is supposed to work. I have tried to turn it off then back on using the DIC as well as the remote entry fob (as instructed in the users' manual). It still doesn't work. Is this a common problem that can be easily fixed? Would disconnecting the battery and "rebooting" the computer help or hurt? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mine is a 2001 w/DIC. I have mine set to "on", as well, but when I use the remote to lock the car, it does not delay, even if the doors are still open when I press lock. It locks at the moment the button on the remote is pressed.
Here is the only way that I have seen mine work... when I turn off the car, I remove the key and press the lock button on the door. I will get three chimes. Then, 5 seconds after closing the door, the locks activate. You can, however, override the delay by pressing the lock button a 2nd time. It will then lock right away with the 2nd press.
I had my car battery go bad a couple months ago and when they replaced the battery and reconnected power to the car, all my memory settings were still in place. It did not affect anything by disconnecting the battery. I have, however, heard of other people (not w/ PA's) talk about "refreshing" the system with disconnecting the battery. Doesn't sound like it could hurt.
Like I said, mine is a 2001, so the functioning may have changed between the years. Perhaps yours might work a little different than mine. But if you haven't already, check how it works by using the door button to lock, rather than the remote. Hope this helps.

Thanks TopherS
Actually, I don't use the remote entry fob in every day use. I turn off the car, remove the key from the ignition, open the door and press the door lock button. Even with the Lock Delay ON, all the doors immediately lock.

A couple more questions...maybe save you a trip to the dealer. Sounds like you've checked it all out, but just in case...
Again, with mine being a different model year, it might be different, but I don't think that much had changed.
I am assuming that you have (in addition to the Driver Info Center) the option of memory settings. Do you have two separate (but programmable) remotes? Do you use your remote to Unlock the car, rather than the key?
The reason I ask this is that I have two remotes to my car, mine with a "1" that is programmed to the settings for Driver 1 and my wife's has a "2" (on the back) programmed to her settings as Driver 2. Since I use the car most, it is mostly set to my settings, however the second that my wife's remote is used to unlock the doors, (or if "Memory 2" is pushed), all of my wife's settings are implemented. She has separate settings (e.g. when she locks the door with the remote, the horn honks, but with mine, it won't, as I have that option turned off on my settings).
The only thing that I can think of in your car (other than a malfunction in the system) is that perhaps you may be setting your Driver 1 settings, but happen to be using a remote attached to the Driver 2 settings, which may have different options set.
Again, sounds like you've already gone through this, but you might check to be sure that the remote you use is attached to the Driver settings and that they have that option turned on. To be sure that it is ALWAYS on, be sure to set the option in both Driver 1 and Driver 2 settings. If it still doesn't work, it would sound like you have a glitch in the system.
