Brake Fluid leak

I have a brake fluid leak on my 1997 escort and I can't seem to find it. I've pulled the wheels off and didn't see any leaks, I tried tightening some of the connections but they were all tight. Anyone know where else it could be?

Did you pull the rear drums and check the wheel cylinders? This is a common area where leaks occur and are usually not seen. Another possibility is a bad master cylinder but if it is just leaking then the wheel cylinder is your best bet.

I don't have drums in the back and when the wheels were off I didn't notice any leaks. I put a rebuilt master cylinder not to long ago so that shouldn't be the problem, unless I didnt put it on right, where would I see the leaks if there were any on the master cylinder? Thanks.

Does the fluid level go down in the master cylinder after filling? Fluid level will drop a little with normal use of the brakes. As the pads wear, more fluid is needed to push the pistons in the calipers.
You are going to have to check each line for rust or corosion. Start at the master cylinder and wipe down all the brake lines and connections with a paper towel. Look to see what is wet with brake fluid. Check around the pistons in the calipers. Check around your brake pedal to see if the master cylinder is leaking froms it rear seals.
How is the car running? I have seen bad master cylinders leak into the brake booster. Vacuum from the booster will pull leaking brake fluid into the motor.

Just curious... if you can't find the fluid, how do you know there is a leak?
If you recently replaced the master cylinder, perhaps you did not bleed it properly before you put it on and have air in the system?
Another thought... if your car has a manual transmission the leak could be at the clutch link on top the tranny.

I think there is a leak beacuase my parking brake light stayed on when the parking break was down because the fluid was so low, after I filled it to the top, the light came back on after a month or 2 and the fluid was low again. I looked at some of the metal lines that the fluid travels through and they looked greasy and wet, but they weren't loose. Also some of the paint under the hood has came off, maybe from brake fluid.

Thats interesting, because the car is running funny, it has a rough idle with varying rpms and the check engine light is telling me evap emissions control. I didn't think they could be related. So should I check the brake booster?

I will have to double check... but I am pretty sure the parking light you speak of is operated by a switch at the parking brake lever.
The fluid will normally go down over time as brake pads wear... you refilled the master cylinder... has it gone down again? Significantly? Is there any actual problem with braking? Spongy pedal, pull to one side?
From what you just described, I think you should be looking at the electrical side of things.

Another thought... there have been times when I have noticed my brake light on too... and it has been because the parking brake handle was not all the way released... it was only 99.999999% released :P Just one more tiny click and the light goes off!

No, I've checked many time to make sure its pushed down all the way, and it doesn't help, also when it was on and I added some brake fluid, it immediatly went off.

Brake lines that appear to be tight may have vibration or corosion damage. Clean them off and try to isolate where the leak is.
