okay playboy check it out 92 RS full coverage insurance for a new driver is going to run between 110-160 a month. and that is for any of the years between 82-92.

I must ask but why do you want a RS when with 6,000 you can get a Z-28. differance is RS v8-305 5.0ltr. running at about 190hp stock. this depends on weather it is TBI,CARB, TPI.

the TPI runs 190hp
TBI run 170-180 hp
CARb about the same as a TBI

versus Z-28 350 TPI 5.7ltr running approx 230hp stock.

I agree with those numbers. @ 21 yrs old it was $150/month with clear driving record. V6 will drop down to like $110-90

BTW why were the v8's so weak back in the day???

Well, I'm 21, with a spotless record was paying $127 a month for a '90 RS with a v6, just for liability (legal minimum) in ohio. But thats not under my parents insurance.

Because American designers were having trouble making fast, and powerful V8's during the 70's and 80's. It was all because of the switchover from Carb to Fuel Injected engines.

Right now I think it's safe to say we are out of that slump, but we still need to catch up. It wasn't uncommon to see cars in the 60's coming out with 360, 370, 390 horsepower straight from the factory. Sure there are cars today with power like that but they are a select few. Corvette, Viper, 03 Cobra Mustang, Saleen S7.

I was hoping to see the Camaro's and Firebirds get up to about 360 or 370 horsepower but they're going away, maybe the GTO can bring new hopes of a little hot rod with lots of beef.

I have found that, of course it depends on the company, the insurance will cost more for a z-28, 1990 or newer may also cost more. I cheated in high school. I had two cars, a 1971 station wagon that I bought for $100 and put as my primary driver and then put my '89 IROC as secondary. Both under liability only. It was about $300/year cheaper that way. Instead of only having the IROC. Another thing to take into consideration when comparing older vehicles to newer ones. In the sixties and early seventies vehicles were rated in gross hp, in the late seventies they started rating in net. To compare, take the older motor and decrease the hp # by about 15%. Even with that in consideration, late seventies and early eighties motors were made weaker. I especially hate Cross-Fire Fuel injection. What a joke. That will give you a better idea. If you are going to get a V6 car, you can step up a generation and get a nice v6 for $6000. :bandit:

I pay $65.00 a month for full coverage on my 95 V-6 RS on my own insurance. I've been on my own insurance about a year. I go through State Farm Insurance.
