Hello i have a 2001 grand am gt with 62k miles. I drive it only about 3 days out of the week and it is in a outdoor parking lot. This morning I went to my car and tried to use my keyless entry remote given to me by the dealer to get in. But it did not respond. Nothing on the remote worked. I got in and my lights in the car were not working. I turned the key to start it and it did turn over ran for about 4 seconds then died. While i did this the lights in the car came on and i was able to use the powerwindows but no the locks. I tried again same result. I just recently changed the battery and the dealer ran a matience check on it. I tried to fix it using the passkey method but that didnt work. Im thinking it could be a blown fuse but i wont be able to check that till the morning. Any advice on what it could be? Or what to look for.

Thanks
David

Welcome to the Forum,

You said that you were able to get the car started but it quit after 4 seconds or so, did you get it started at all after that or did it just die? You say that you just replaced the battery, Was there a particular reason for the battery change? And when you changed the battery did your mechanic do a check on the charging system of the car?

I do not think that it is a blown fuse, I could be wrong, but I think you may have a problem with your alternator, especially if the car did not start again, you may also have a short some where or something may be staying on and that is causing the battery to drain and since you are not using the car every day if you have a problem like I describe you are not driving enough to get a good re-charge.

Let me know about the questions I have asked and any other electrical things that you can think of that could be going on.

You will find that out here on the Forum there are a lot of Grand Am Owners (GA'ers) the will help to get to your problem, so if I am not on the right track thinking it is battery/electrical some of the other members will start replying to your thread, be patient if you can and let's see what we can do to help you out.

Hang in there, I know it's frustrating but like I say we will help all we can.:bigthumb:

Thanks for the help. Well the car always turns over it just dies after a couple of seconds. The battery was changed because it died. The mechanic did a full checkup and everything was fine. I checked all the fuses that i could get to and they all seem to be fine. I had a mechanic friend come look at it and hes said the alternator was fine and that he also doesnt think it is a fuse. He said that theres nothing i can do about it because he thinks it is a electrical problem. Some kind of short. So I think i have done all i can and i guess im gonna have to take it in. Anything ideas what it could be or anything that i havent tried?

Thanks for the help

David

Yeah got it fixed turns out the BCM shorted out. They replaced the BCM and reprogramed the system overnight parts were $230 +labor and tax=$498. That standard for that type of work? Thanks for the help saved me a lot of time.
