Hey guys, I probably did the dumbest thing any dsm'er could do. I lost my car keys and I don't have a spare. I don't have the key number at all for the car. I called mitsu and two crysler dealers; alas they all said they can't make it for a 91 eagle talon Tsi. They told me to call a locksmith who does automotive stuff. Well, he said you probably do it, but it would cost $200!!!! I don't have that money to burn so is there any ideas to try to get a key? Suggestions would be a huge plus for me. Thanks:banghead:

Why can't you just give the dealership your vin number and have them get a new key cut for you? Thats what I did when the key broke for my 92 Firebird. They had no problems doing it. Cost me 100 bucks but it had a computer chip in it too.

1. Dont lose your keys
2. Always have atleast two spares
3. I would check everywhere again just to be sure before you have to have the locksmith do it
4. Push button starts are the shit!

hmmm not very helpful.. They asked for the vin number then said we stopped carrying blank keys for that 91 eagle you have. Trust me I have looked everywhere for them.

See the probem is aaron is retarded, so #1 is out of the question, #2 would require planing (not a retards strong point), #3 He's looked everywhere but they're probably stuck somewhere sandy  #4 yeah they are.

DSMLink just said my car has 700HP :evillol: :evillol: I know it must be way off but it's funny.

Wait wait... They told you they don't make blanks anymore? Dude, I went down to the local hicks'r'us shop and they had a blank and was able to copy my key. I KNOW there are blanks out there.

You could hack the ignition harness, run the constant hot for the ignition through a toggle, and install a pushbutton ignition. chilton manuals should have the wiring diagram, add 2 parts common sense and voila instant ignition.

They also said they don't have the right "gun" for it. I have no idea what that means

instead of a bench grinder style key cutting machine there are also a "gun" looking one. it is shaped like a gun, has a trigger and is adjusted incrementally(i think) to cut a key. I havn't seen one used since I was probably seven, but it would be something very similar to what I described.

go to ebay.com search for the vehicle and year, and try and find blanks, have them shipped. go to a mitsu or a chrystler dealer and givem your vin # make sure to have the pink slip and ID because usually they wont do it with out that.

i think the dealer is filling you full of shit or they're just too damn lazy to do it...EVERY dealership i've ever dealt with has been able to cut a key for any half-ass recent car. granted it may be 15 years old...but they should still be able to do it.

hmm i lock my self out of my car all the time, get a ""slim-jim""... heres what you do, you call up your local cop station tell the officer you locked yourself out of your car and they got "slim jims" to pick locks even power window locks. or do what i do get a coat hanger put a hook on it and slide it down, then pull towards your front bumper it always works for me.

Guy, I work at a locksmith shop. I can tell you that the key you're looking for in a MIT-1. That "aftermarket" ebay key is funny. We stock that thing all day long. Maybe if you went and bought a MIT-1 from Wal-Mart and took it to a locksmith they could help you out. Or if you took it to the dealership. See if there's a Furlong's in your area, that's where I work, and the locksmiths charge $50 to do what you're asking. Hope it helps.

MIT-1 ok i will go find that lock then see on monday if a locksmith can do it... 200 bucks is not worth it lol thats thats like 10% of my cars worth lol there is a guy a dsmtalk that said he could cut a key for me he works at a mitsu dealership. but he doesn't seem very active over there, thanks you guys

Will the dealer give you the key code? If so take it to most good locksmiths and they can cut it. I have done this with many salvage cars in the past. Dealers are bad at making keys.
Goodluck

The car is up and going, givin it is still leaky. but hey im getting a new turbo, so its ok lol Thanks to loeman and his tubing and clamp, EZ was able to fabricate a fitting on to the old flange then have the hose go over the fitting, and clamp it down... it works, but his welding maybe the reason it is leaking a little, or the gasket didn't seal.. either way i just need to get to work for the fist month
then it will be all ok... EVOIII here i come lol thanks everyone on the advice on the key, i got it for 26 bucks at the same chysler dealership that i have been calling, it was a dif person that said they had the key... But ez got his at the mitsu, for like 6 bucks... im a little pissed.... WE saw an EVo 8 and 9 there, the 8 was modified... only 21 k new i think or slightly used.... again thank you for all the ideas, now i will make a spare lol

Hey aaron did the $20 extra you spent on your key make it better? That must add at least 10 horsepower.
